According to this (surface temperature!) the north pole is a hot spot.

I noticed that too... But I understood that the color was more likely to indicate the level of temperature increase rather than actual temperature.

I had to read in the comments at YouTube what is is. Didn't hear it at all (then again, it seems to be the old version way before I cared about such things....)

I thought it sounded a lot like The Third Man. I wonder if Karras used some elements of this.
