Robot Monster, a review by addicted2dvd

Robot Monster
Starring George Nader, Claudia Barrett, Selena Royle, John Mylong, Gregory Moffett, Pamela Paulson, George Barrows. Screenplay by Wyatt Ordung. Special effects by Jack Robin and David Commons. Music by Emma Bernstein. Produced by Al Zimbalist. Co-produced and Directed by Phil Tucker.

Ro-Man, a sex-starved robot monster (dressed in a gorilla suit and diving helmet) has destroyed all of humanity with the exception of a small band of survivors. It's up to these last brave souls to repopulate the human race and destroy the mighty Ro-Man and his commander, The Great Guidance.

If Ed Wood's PLAN NINE FROM OUTER SPACE speaks to you, Phil Tucker's Golden Turkey Award-winning film will scream. Scored by the legendary Acadamy Award winning composer Elmer Bernstein (maybe his finest score other then CAT-WOMEN OF THE MOON) and photographed on-location at scenic Bronson Canyon, ROBOT MONSTER leaves it's residue in the Hollywood Hall of Fame. Exciting 2-Dimensions. No special glasses needed!

Hi-De-Ho, a review by Danae Cassandra

Hi-De-Ho
Year of Release: 1947
Directed By: Josh Binney
Starring: Cab Calloway, Ida James, Jeni Le Gon
Genre: Musical

Overview:
Bandleader Cab Calloway is tiring of his sexy girlfriend Minnie, who in turn is jealous of Cab's manager Nettie. When Nettie gets Cab a job at the Brass Hat Club, Minnie retaliates for his imagined infidelity by setting gangster Boss Mason, owner of a rival club, against him. Will she regret her action before it's too late?

My Thoughts:
The plot is really thin and none of the performers can act.  Seriously, they are all about as good as the cast of a high school play.  Fortunately that plot only takes up half the film, interspersed with music.  The second half is all music, and the music is the reason to watch this.  What Calloway lacks in acting chops he makes up for in fabulous jive.

If this was just the music I'd rate the film higher, but the plot parts really drag.  Recommended only for the music - and hit fast-forward when those aren't on.

Bechdel Test: Fail
Mako Mori Test: Fail

Overall: 2.5/5

Die Camper
Season 9.13 Winterzauber

I only ever saw the first season of this series and stopped watching it in the beginning of the second season when the whole cast was replaced which really bothered me. I bought this DVD set with all nine seasons, because it is the only way to get the first season on DVD. And as the set cost me only as much as usually a single season sells, it was a good deal.
I decided to watch the final episode for this marathon even though I didn't watch the rest. This is a series, where you can watch any episode and not having missed anything. And as I doubt I will watch all the nine seasons any time soon.
The final episode is just an average episode. Not hinting in any way that this is the end of the series. It is nice enough to watch, but nothing special.
