What made it so important that he try to talk to/patch things up with his wife, sit with a boy's mother, and slam a door?

Given your hint that Bruce Willis is in it this is obviously The Sixth Sense. The answer to the question should therefore be:
He was trying to do all the things unsuccessfully which should clue us in on another plot point later on.

I looked through my collection and while I am sure I understand the concept of the game I could not come up with a single idea for the next question
