5 Dolls for an August Moon, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: 5 Dolls for an August Moon (1970)

Genre: Murder Mystery
Director: Mario Bava
Rating: Unrated
Length: 1h21
Video: Widescreen
Audio: Italian
Subtitles: English

Stars:Plot:
Bava's ultra-mod 1970 murder mystery remains one of the most critically divisive and little-seen films of his career. Bava imbues the derivative script with a sly streak of black humor and a steady stream of eye-popping visuals, including a va-va-voom performance by giallo goddess Edwige Fenech. Never released theatrically in America, it has since become a favorite of Bava fans worldwide.

My Thoughts:
Now that's more what I like, a well done sexy Giallo that isn't the most brutal one but certainly complicated. What we have is essentially is murders that happen in a close room (ok it's an island, but this is mostly the same) and we know that the murderer is one of the 10 protagonists. Evidently you will make a lot wrong guess before knowing who is the killer and this is the essence of a good Giallo, a genre where the Italians are the masters. The end was a surprise for me the first time and I've appreciated it and I've seen the hints that explain it (I've seen the movie 3 times it sure help). Great performance from Howard Ross, Maurice Poli (wait to see him in Kidnapped

Invasion of the Bee Girls, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: Invasion of the Bee Girls
Year: 1973
Director: Denis Sanders
Rating: R
Length: 86 Min.
Video: Full Frame 1.33:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo
Subtitles: N/A

Stars:
William Smith
Anitra Ford
Victoria Vetri
Cliff Osmond

Ben Hammer

Plot:
Suspicious deaths in a California community come to the attention of the U.S. Government when one of their top scientists is found dead. A State Department agent is sent to investigate and learns from the coroner that the all-male victims died from "sexual exhaustion". Working on a lead about the case, the agent teams up with a female government research scientist and they discover a female insect expert is using a process to give women bee-like qualities and sending them out to kill men with sex.

Extras:
Scene Access

My Thoughts:
OK... this was interesting to say the least. This is definitely no Academy Award winner... but I enjoyed it much more then the last movie I watched! Obviously with the subject of this movie... it has it's share of sex and nudity. Though several of the scenes were so dark it was hard to make out what you were looking at at times. And I got to say... if you gotta go that is the way to go!

I have this movie in the boxset I got last month... Horror Classics: 100 Movie Pack. Your basic public domain fair I believe. Quality could be much better. It is like watching a second generation VHS tape. But watchable. No extras what so ever. And the worst part... a Mills Creek Entertainment logo popped up in the lower right corner for a few seconds every once in a while. I learned to live with this on TV... but on a DVD!?!? That is just not right!

Over all an entertaining "leave your brain at the door" pop-corn flick that has lots of nice looking ladies. Worth checking it out. But don't expect too much from it. If curios... Here is the trailer to check out

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

Die Camper
Season 9.13 Winterzauber

I only ever saw the first season of this series and stopped watching it in the beginning of the second season when the whole cast was replaced which really bothered me. I bought this DVD set with all nine seasons, because it is the only way to get the first season on DVD. And as the set cost me only as much as usually a single season sells, it was a good deal.
I decided to watch the final episode for this marathon even though I didn't watch the rest. This is a series, where you can watch any episode and not having missed anything. And as I doubt I will watch all the nine seasons any time soon.
The final episode is just an average episode. Not hinting in any way that this is the end of the series. It is nice enough to watch, but nothing special.
