The Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc, a review by addicted2dvdThe Messenger: The Story of Joan of Arc My Thoughts: This was a complete bind buy for me... as before I ordered it I never even seen the trailer for this movie. But I have always liked the story of Joan of Arc. I also been a fan of Milla Jovovich for a while now... who stars in the title role. Thinking back this may be the first movie on Joan of Arc that I ever seen... at least as far as I can remember. Because of that... I can not compare this movie to any other... but I can say I enjoyed every minute of it. This movie clocks in at 2hrs. and 38min. but I enjoyed it so much it felt like a fraction of that time. I feel this movie was definitely worth the $5 I paid for it. Rating: NOTE TO JON: Hey Jon... let me say if for you! Watching this movie I got to see plenty of blood... arms and legs getting cut off... and more then one beheading! With a movie like this... who needs horror! Nafas, an Afghan-born Canadian journalist, returns to her homeland in a desperate attempt to reach her sister. Overcome with grief after being injured by a landmine and her despair over the Taliban's systemic oppression of women, she had vowed that she will commit suicide at the time of the next solar eclipse, only three days away. Clothed in the traditional head-to-toe burka, and posing as a subservient wife, Nafas' odyssey takes her across a dramatic desert landscape, where she encounters bandits, corpse-robbers, marooned exiles, overwhelmed Red Cross workers, hordes of land-mine victims, and finally a wedding procession that brings her within eyeshot of Kandahar. Stars: John Ritter as John Hartman Markie Post as Georgie Anne Lahti Hartman Billy Bob Thornton as Billy Bob Davis Leslie Jordan as Lonnie Garr Conchata Ferrell as Madeline Stoessinger Extras:
My Thoughts: Just finished off the second season of Hearts Afire. They pretty much changed the entire series. Moved them away from Capital Hill... moving them to the small town John and Billy Bob grew up in. I found I am enjoying this new format a bit more then what they had for the first season. I was never much of a fan of the Senator character they all worked for in the first season. But I really enjoy the new characters of Madeline Stoessinger and Lonnie Garr. Definitely an improvement over the first season. Now I am looking forward to starting season 3.My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on November 18th, 2011) |
