Kick-Ass, a review by dfmorgan
Year: 2010 Director: Matthew Vaughn CastOverviewWatched: 10th Sep 2010 My Thoughts: Following the rave reception this film received here I was looking forward to sitting down and watching it. However as a long-time Daily Mail reader I have usually found that I can trust Christopher Tookey's film reviews and again, with this film, he hasn't let me down. What a total letdown I couldn't find any redeeming features about this film it was just a great big steaming cow-pat of poo! My Rating: Sorry it has to be 0 The above was written as a joke because so many people here raved about this film. Below is my real thoughts and rating which were originally spoiler tagged to hide them from general view. My Real Thoughts: What an immensely fun film. I thought that all the main characters came over well and am looking forward to watching it again very soon. As to Mr. Tookey's reviews - Yes I do trust them as, in general, if he dislikes a film I quite often like them and vice versa some he has rated highly I have found to be boring or lacking in the enjoyment factor. My Real Rating: A very enjoyable 4 Dave Edited to remove spoiler tag around My Real Thoughts and Rating and to add little expanation between both sets of thoughts and ratings. My Thoughts: I have been waiting for this one to arrive since I found out I was getting it! This is a film I used to love when I was a teen (I am 44 now). And I haven't seen it since I was a teen! Going into this one, I must admit, I was a little concerned that the film wouldn't live up to my memories. But I do love '80s horror... it is my favorite decade for the genre. I got to say.... I so enjoyed watching this film again! While I may have built it up a little with my memories.... for the most part it lived up to them. The characters are a lot of fun. Story keeps your interest from beginning to end. And the make-up effects are good too. And what I like about this blu-ray release... it has both the director's cut ending as well as the theatrical release ending... which kept the ending open to a possible sequel. I highly recommend adding this one to your collection! I had a blast watching this one again after more years then I care to calculate. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: The Blu-ray Experience on July 12th, 2013) Doctor Who Marathon, a review by TomDoctor Who Series 1.09 The Empty Child Writer: Steven Moffat (Writer) Director: James Hawes Cast: Christopher Eccleston (Doctor Who), Billie Piper (Rose Tyler), Kate Harvey (Nightclub Singer), Albert Valentine (The Child), Florence Hoath (Nancy), Cheryl Fergison (Mrs Lloyd), Damian Samuels (Mr Lloyd), John Barrowman (Jack Harkness), Robert Hands (Algy), Joseph Tremain (Jim), Jordan Murphy (Ernie), Brandon Miller (Alf), Richard Wilson (Dr Constantine), Noah Johnson (Voice of The Empty Child), Dian Perry (Computer Voice) This episode marks the first appearance of Captain Jack, who later gets his own spin-off series "Torchwood". I liked the scenes with him. I am not that much keen on the main storyline, though I think the child with the gas mask is creepy. (From Doctor Who Marathon on February 8th, 2014) |
