The Proposal, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: The Proposal Year: 2009 Director: Anne Fletcher Rating: PG-13 Length: 108 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, Spanish: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, Commentary: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars: Sandra Bullock Ryan Reynolds Mary Steenburgen Craig T. Nelson Betty White Denis O'Hare Plot: Sandra Bullock is at her funniest in the fresh, laugh-out-loud romantic comedy The Proposal. On the verge of being deported and losing the high-powered job she lives for, the controlling Margaret announces she's engaged to her unsuspecting, put-upon assistant Andrew (Ryan Reynolds). After proposing a few demands of his own, the mismatched couple heads to Alaska where they have four short days to convince his quirky family and a very skeptical immigration agent that their charade is real. Featuring a star-studded supporting cast, including Mary Steenburgen, Craig T. Nelson and the delightfully inappropriate Betty White, this madcap comedy will have you saying "yes" to The Proposal again and again. Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Bonus Trailers Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This is the second time I watched this movie since I bought it earlier this year. I enjoy this one very much. It helps that I am a fan of both Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds. I think the funniest scene in the entire movie was the shower/running into each other naked scene. Basically the only scene I actually laughed at in the movie. But I do believe a romantic comedy isn't so much about actual laugh out loud moments. More about a lighthearted look at falling in love. Sure... the ending is predictable. But once again I believe that is to be expected with romantic comedies as they are not about the ending... going in we expect the ending... it is about the journey of how they get to that point. Over-all looking at this movie I just find a fun story. I enjoyed both Sandra Bullock and Ryan Reynolds in this one. Though I do think they wasted the talents of Betty White. They could have done a better job on her character. Though it was kinda funny seeing her dancing and chanting in the woods. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Monday Mini-Marathon: Happy Birthday Sandra Bullock on July 26th, 2010) Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country, a review by TomTitle: Star Trek VI: The Undiscovered Country Year: 1991 Director: Nicholas Meyer Rating: FSK-12 Length: 109 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.00 Audio: German: Dolby Digital 5.1, English: Dolby Digital 5.1, Commentary: Dolby Digital Surround Subtitles: Arabic, Bulgarian, Commentary, Czech, Danish, Dutch, English, Finnish, German, Hungarian, Icelandic, Norwegian, Polish, Romanian, Swedish, Turkish Stars: William Shatner Leonard Nimoy DeForest Kelley James Doohan Walter Koenig Extras: Commentary Deleted Scenes Featurettes Photo Gallery Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: A great farewell movie for the original crew. Maybe a little to much prejudice involved for supposedly open-minded Starfleet officers.I always liked the passing of the torch to the Next Generation crew with Kirk's final log entry: "This is the final cruise of the Starship Enterprise under my command. This ship and her history will shortly become the care of another crew. To them and their posterity will we commit our future. They will continue the voyages we have begun, and journey to all the undiscovered countries, boldly going where no man... where no one has gone before." Expecially the "where no man... where no one..." part as this reflects the opening narrations of the respective series. Rating: (From Tom's Star Trek Movies Marathon on February 3rd, 2009) Charmed Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdDisc 6: "Love Hurts"Original Airdate: May 19, 1999 Returning to San Francisco, Leo (Brian Krause) asks the Halliwell sisters to protect an innocent woman who is being stalked by a demonic auditor. Piper finally learns that her beau, Leo, is a White Lighter. Because of this, Piper must say goodbye to her love. My Thoughts: This was a really good episode. Now all the sisters know about Leo as they fight to save his life. The sisters use a spell to switch powers so Piper can try to save Leo with his own healing power. As Phoebe said... it was a supernatural "Freaky Friday". Original Airdate: May 26, 1999 Fighting for their lives, the Charmed Ones combat time sorcerer Tempus Fugit (guest star David Carradine) who has created a terrifying time loop. It is a race against the clock as the sisters try to find a way out of their terrifying recurring fates. My Thoughts: A great way to end the season. A ""Groundhog Day" type of episode as Tempus aides a demon to try to get rid of The Charmed Ones. Even though it was pretty obvious to have Phoebe see through the time loop with her psychic powers... but how else could they really of done it? It was the most obvious way... but at the same time the best way in my opinion. Overall Season 1 Thoughts: A great beginning to what I have always felt was an awesome series. I know many people that do not care for this show at all... and many who stopped at season 3... then there has been many that stopped at season 5 or 6. I on the other had loved this series clear to the end. But fear I am one of the few. So if you haven't seen this series I would suggest checking out an episode or two before going out of your way to buy it. Unfortunately the first season (as well as the next 6 seasons) has no extras (other then promo trailers) what so ever. This was always a sad thing for me... but at least they tried to make up for it in the 8th (and final) season. (From Charmed Marathon on February 28th, 2008) |
