The King's Speech, a review by DragonfireThe King's Speech I finally had the chance to see this one last month. It did take a while for the movie to come to the theater here in town. I think I actually saw it on one of the last days it was here. I think it was only at the theater for 2 or 3 weeks. Anyway, I'm glad I managed to see it because it is a really good movie and definitely worth seeing. The story about how Prince Albert - later King George VI - worked to deal with his stutter is interesting and I think it made for an entertaining movie. Not everyone feels the same though. I know of at least a few people who saw it and thought it was boring. I did know that King Edward VIII abdicated the throne before seeing this movie, but I didn't know anything about King George VI or his stutter. The cast is amazingly good, especially Colin Firth. He's wonderful in the part and definitely deserves the awards he's won for the performance. Helena Bonham Carter is really good too. This is probably the most normal part I've seen her play. Geoffrey Rush also does a good job as Lionel Logue, the speech therapist. Overall, I really enjoyed the movie and think it is definitely worth seeing. I did get a longer review posted on Epinions. The King's Speech (From The King's Speech on March 7th, 2011) Hot Shots!: Part Deux, a review by TomTitle: Hot Shots!: Part Deux Year: 1993 Director: Jim Abrahams Rating: FSK-12 Length: 85 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Surround, German: Dolby Digital Surround, Spanish: Dolby Digital Surround Subtitles: Danish, English, Finnish, German, Norwegian, Other, Portuguese, Spanish, Swedish Stars: Charlie Sheen Lloyd Bridges Richard Crenna Valeria Golino Brenda Bakke Extras: Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: After having finally watched the Rambo movies, I thought it fitting to watch Hot Shots 2 again. I think it is a nice touch, that Richard Crenna is parodying his Trautman role from the Rambo movies here. The Hots Shots movies are still parody movies, which do not beat jokes to death like recent such movies do. They rather concentrate on visual side gags. Also the production value seems much higher. Plot: I"s Iori Hazuki is a beautiful high schooler with ambitions of becoming an actress. Ichitaka Seto is an indecisive sort with a crush on Iori from afar. Itsuki Akiba is Ichitaka's cute childhood friend who has returned from abroad. Put all three "I"s together and you have a tale of love, comedy, and dreams... I"s Pure The course of true love never did run smooth, and hapless Ichitaka has a ton of obstacles to overcome to win the heart of his classmate and budding actress Iori: pranks and misunderstandings, stalkers, and romantic intervention, but most of all staying true to one's feelings. Are the two "I"s destined to find happiness together, or does fate have other ideas? I''s 1.01 Another Summer Story, Part 1 I own the manga series of this (after colleague recommended it to me as I enjoyed the author's previous work: "Video Girl Ai"), but I still haven't read it all. I didn't get quite into it. I bought this animer also a few years ago, but I never watched it. I wanted to wait until after I finished the manga. For this marathon I watched now the first episode from the first series. The first series consists of two episode and its story is not taken from the manga. When I started to watch it, I thought what a horrible dub it is. I am not used to having anime such horrible voice acting. Until I realized that I forgot to switch to the original Japanese track and had still the English track on. English anime dubs are always horrible in my experience. This first episode was okay. Nice animation. But like with the manga, I didn't quite get into it. Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on June 3rd, 2012) |
