Carnal Knowledge, a review by HalTitle: Carnal Knowledge Year: 1971 Director: Mike Nichols Rating: R Length: 98 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1, Pan & Scan 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: Mono Subtitles: English, French Stars: Jack Nicholson Candice Bergen Art Garfunkel Ann-Margret Rita Moreno Plot: One of the most controversial movies of its time, this "thought-provoking" (Leonard Maltin ) comedy-drama from legendary director Mike Nichols (The Birdcage) is a funny, poignant look at relationships as seen through the eyes of two friends over a 20-year period. Superbly crafted by playwright Jules Feiffer, Carnal Knowledge is brimming with touching insights, sexy banter and powerful performances by three-time Oscar winner Jack Nicholson, Ann-Margaret, Candice Bergen and pop music icon Arthur Garfunkel. Jonathan (Nicholson) and Sandy (Garfunkel) are college roommates who share an endless fascination - and obsession - with women. As time goes by, their relentless pursuit for the joys of the flesh becomes more competitive. And more damaging. Soon, Jonathan and Sandy's lives become a vicious circle of girls, booze and unfulfillment, and they realize only too late that - in the war of the sexes they are their own worst enemy. Extras: Closed Captioned Commentary Deleted Scenes Featurettes Music Videos Photo Gallery Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: I always enjoy this movie. It's a romantic comedy disguised as a spy spoof. And even though it is a low-budget independent movie, I think it is well made. And isn't Jordana Brewster beautiful in it? I like how this movie plays with how the world (especially the D.E.B.S.) perceives Lucy Diamond and how she really is. I think Jordana makes it really believable, that Lucy has fallen for Amy this fast. Other good performances are Jill Ritchie as Janet, and Meagan Good as the badass Max. The Hand of God Paul comes under investigation by the police after a woman is found murdered in her home, leaving behind her diary where she had sketched his name and image, along with the words "God is nowhere". Guest Stars: Blake Bashoff John Thaddeus Pat Skipper Robert Clotworthy My Thoughts: This is the final episode to air on ABC in it's original run. Thankfully they gave us the entire 13 episodes on this DVD collection. This episode is an interesting one as it continues with the series long storyline. But it did seem a little slow to me. This episode completes the second disc in the set. My Rating: (From Miracles Marathon on December 30th, 2009) |
