The Kid, a review by AntaresThe Kid Year: 1921 Film Studio: Charles Chaplin Productions, Warner Bros., MK2 Genre: Comedy, Classic Length: 50 Min. Director Charles Chaplin (1889) Writing Charles Chaplin (1889)...Writer Producer Charles Chaplin (1889) Cinematographer Roland Totheroh (1890) Stars Charles Chaplin (1889) as A Tramp Jackie Coogan (1914) as The Kid Edna Purviance (1895) as The Woman Carl Miller (1893) as The Man Albert Austin (1882) as Man in shelter (Uncredited) Beulah Bains (1905) as Bride (Uncredited) Nellie Bly Baker (1893) as Slum nurse (Uncredited) Henry Bergman (1868) as Night shelter keeper (Uncredited) Review The idea for The KidThe KidThe Kid was un-paralleled by any other film up to that time, and it would prove to other studios that comedy was a bankable investment in full-length films. The risk taken by Chaplin would give rise to the careers of both Buster Keaton and Harold Lloyd, as they too made the transition from short comedies to full-length films. Review Criterion 5 Stars - The pinnacle of film perfection and excellence. (From The Kid (1921) on May 2nd, 2010) Love Potion #9, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: Love Potion #9 Year: 1992 Director: Dale Launer Rating: PG-13 Length: 96 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital Surround, English: Dolby Digital Surround Subtitles: English, Spanish Stars: Tate Donovan as Paul Sandra Bullock as Diane Mary Mara as Marisa Dale Midkiff as Gary Hillary Bailey Smith as Sally Plot: In this charming romantic comedy, a brilliant but lonely biochemist (Tate Donovan) gets a mysterious potion from a gypsy who guarantees it will turn his life around. After showing it to his co-worker (Sandra Bullock), a shy animal psychobiologist, they achieve amazing amorous results in a chimpanzee experiment. Now the only way to see if it works on humans is to test it on themselves. Extras: Scene Access Trailers Featurettes Closed Captioned My Thoughts: After that last movie I felt like watching another Sandra Bullock movie. And this is the only other one I have in my collection I never seen before. I found it to be a decent movie... though there really nothing special about this one. There was something about Tate Donovan I didn't care for... which makes it a little hard to enjoy something like this since you don't care for one of the main 2 of the movie. Other then that... the story even though fun... is a bit out there. I did like Sandra Bullock in it though. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Romantic Comedies on February 11th, 2010) Buffy the Vampire Slayer Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdSeason 2: Disc 1 1. When She Was Bad Buffy's got a new, not-so-nice attitude; the Anointed One plans to resurrect the Master. My Thoughts: A good start to the second season. I like how they made it so Buffy had to deal with all that she went through during the end of season 1. 2. Some Assembly Required Someone is building a woman using body parts from different girls ... and Cordelia's head is on the wish list. My Thoughts: Another decent episode... enjoyable... but nothing special really. 3. School Hard Spike and Drusilla come to town, and Spike invades Parent-Teacher night. My Thoughts: Excellent episode! Definitely one of my favorites. The episode that started the Spike craze that swamps the Buffy fans... Even though I like Spike well enough... I don't know why he is as well liked as he is. 4. Inca Mummy Girl Buffy and Joyce offer to take in a foreign exchange student, but instead get a life-sucking mummy who's taken an interest in Xander. My Thoughts: Another good episode. First it is a giant insect... then it is a mummy girl... poor Xander just has no luck what so ever. (From Buffy the Vampire Slayer Marathon on November 10th, 2007) |
