Masaļ: Les guerriers de la pluie, a review by Danae CassandraWhere We Are: Kenya wikipedia Year of Release: 2005 Starring: Ngotiek Ole Mano, Paul Nteri Ole Sekenan, Parkasio Ole Muntet, Musurpei Ole Toroge, Swakei Kiplosh Directed By: Pascal Plisson Genre: Adventure Overview:My Thoughts: First, I should say, yes this is technically a French film since the production companies are French. However, I'm counting as Kenyan since it not only was filmed in Kenya but also all the actors are Maasai, it's a look at their traditional way of life, was developed in partnership with their community, and is spoken in Maa. So I'm counting it for Kenya (however, for sticklers with my marathon here, I also watched the short film Pumzi which is from a Kenyan production company). We enjoyed this film quite a lot. It was beautifully filmed, definitely showing Plisson's nature documentary background and showcasing the gorgeous African savanna that the Maasai inhabit. The actors, while undoubtedly amateurs, all did good work and it was interesting to see their characters develop over the film. It's a story of initiation and courage, and learning to work together and make sacrifices for the greater good. In that respect it has a lot of positive messages to share with viewers. It's also a look at a traditional African way of life, uncluttered by questions of modernism, colonialism, or westernization. It has a rich, authentic, ancient feel to it, and I'd recommend it to anyone. It's also suitable for family viewing with anyone old enough to read subtitles. Stars: Don Keith Opper Terrence Mann Paul Whitthorne Anders Hove Angela Bassett Brad Dourif Plot:Extras: Scene Access Feature Trailers DVD-ROM Content Closed Captioned My Thoughts: This one didn't impress me much at all. You know you have a problem when they decide to bring the franchise to space. This one really starts out slow and boring... I mean you don't even see the critters until you are a half an hour into the movie. Sure things improve a bit once they do show up.... but not enough to really save this movie. My Rating Out of a Possible 5 Count: Movie Count: 33 TV Ep. Count: 14 Other Count: 2 Time Started: 10:15am (From Month Long Horror/Halloween Marathon: 2010 on October 10th, 2010) NCIS Marathon, a review by addicted2dvdNCIS: Season 4: Disc 5 17. SKELETONS An explosion at military cemetery mausoleum reveals several dismembered human remains. The team looks for potential serial killers, but Gibbs is surprised wth the final outcome. My Thoughts: This is a good episode... though somewhat standard. Little bit more then a filler episode. My Rating: 18. ICEMAN A man supposedly frozen to death is about to be autopsied by Ducky, when he suddenly sits up - alive! As the NCIS team tries to figure out who left the man for dead, they discover there's a link to Gibbs' past. My Thoughts: This is a good episode. We get a visit from Mike Franks again in this one. I enjoy the story... went by quickly. My Rating: 19. GRACE PERIOD An anonymous call to the NCIS tip line about possible terrorist activity sends two agents into a trap and certain death. My Thoughts: A very good episode. One where we say goodbye to a recurring cast member. I really liked all about this one. I would definitely have to rate it as one of my favorites. My Rating: 20. COVER STORY With little information to go on, McGee is under serious pressure during the murder investigation of a Petty Officer. My Thoughts: Another excellent episode. I really enjoyed how they made this episode about Tim's new book. It made for a fun and entertaining episode. My Rating: (From NCIS Marathon on December 26th, 2009) |
