Race to Witch Mountain, a review by Dragonfire

I have seen most of the movies that Dwayne Johnson has made and I've enjoyed them.  I think he's very entertaining, and I do tend to give his new movies a chance.  I wanted to see Race to Witch Mountain after the first time I saw a preview.

Jack Bruno is a cab driver in Las Vegas trying to get his life in order.  He is a bit annoyed by the UFO convention going on in town and thinks that most of the people involved in it are idiots.  He meets Dr. Alex Friedman, a scientist who is speaking about the possibility of life on other planets, when he drives her to her hotel.  At the same time, a group of government men are investigating what they think is the crash site for a space ship.  One of the government men is determined to track down the aliens. 

Two teenagers, Seth and Sarah, end up in Jack's cab and want him to take them to a deserted spot.  It isn't long before Jack has to accept that Seth and Sarah are aliens and they need his help to save the planet. 

I've never seen the original Witch Mountain movies, so I don't know for sure what was the same or what was different.  The movie has a decent plot that is interesting which made for an enjoyable movie.  There is action in a few scenes that help to keep things interesting.  There is some humor in the movie as well that I think worked overall.  There did seem to be an attempt to make Jack a more complex character by adding in something tied to his past that ultimately didn't go anywhere.  I did like Jack though and enjoyed Dwayne Johnson's performance.  Seth and Sara did seem stiff for a while, but that fits with them being aliens who don't understand much about Earth.  Alex gets pulled into what is going on later in the movie.  She is a decent character even though she isn't developed much.

Overall, Race to Witch Mountain is a fun, entertaining movie that is family friendly.

A Very Brady Christmas
Mike and Carol Brady decide to spend their savings on bringing their kids and relatives in for the holidays, but the kids are having their own problems: Greg (now a doctor) has to make the trip alone since his wife Nora is spending the holidays with her family; Peter is embarrassed to bring his girlfriend home since she is his boss; Bobby is hiding the fact that he dropped out of business grad school to race cars; Marcia's husband, Wally, has been laid off from his job at Tyler Toys; Jan and stuffy husband Phillip are separating; and Cindy is tired of the fact that mom and dad can't respect her as a grown woman. Just another day in the life of the Bradys.

My Thoughts:
I wasn't sure I was quite ready for this reunion movie... especially with it being so far out of season. But when Brittany found out I was doing reunion movies for this weekend's marathon... she really wanted to watch the Brady Bunch ones with me. So we decide to go ahead and do it. As I have said while watching the complete series set... I personally always enjoyed the reunion movies more then the series itself. I can say I have a new appreciation for the series... as I enjoyed it more then I thought I would when I watched it again... but think I still prefer the reunion movies. Some reason I really enjoy seeing the Brady kids all grown up. But I do believe this is the last time I will watch this particular reunion movie till the Holiday season comes!

"Stargate SG-1" Marathon, a review by DJ Doena

Synopsis: On planets where SG teams observe the locals with the help of the Sodan cloaking device suddenly beasts appear that slaughter the people. But among these planets are also some under Ori rule, thus excluding the Priors as a cause for this. Sam and Teal'c are investigating this.
In the meantime General Landry and Cameron are stuck in Jack's cabin in the woods because a storm has washed away the road. But this forrest also seems to harbour a dangerous creature.

My Opinion: This was well done. I liked Sam as head of the SGC. It was also believable that Cameron felt queasy around his boss. But the people should haved learned by now that it is sometimes wise to listen to Vala. What I didn't like at all was the animation of the creatures, they looked totally fake.

Synopsis: Cameron is just about to go through the Stargate for the 200th time (not on the 200th mission!) when there's a defect that disables the Stargate. While it is being repaired SG-1 is helping Martin Lloyd. He is producing a "Wormhole X-treme!" movie even though the show was cancelled after three episodes.

My Opinion: Great episode that has summarized 10 years of Stargate SG-1 in an humorous way, including making fun about some weaknesses of the show. I was greatly entertained and the references to Star Trek and Farscape were lovely.

Synopsis: The Jaffa are using the weapon on Dakara to wipe out the population of planets that have fallen to the Ori. While General Landry and Bra'tac are trying to stop this mass murder, SG-1 has taken over an Ori ship - or maybe not.

My Opinion: While I don't like the character Adria (as previously pointed out) I am glad to see Morena Baccarin (Inara in Firefly) again. That the Ori would move heaven and hell (in their case maybe only hell) to find that weapon was quite predictable. I am not really feeling sorry for the loss of Dakara. Although I feel sorry for Teal'c and Bra'tac whose dream of a united Jaffa nation has receded into the distance again.

Synopsis: The waitress Val is working in a small diner. But then two men try to rob it and are stopped by her without effort. She just doesn't know how she did it, she doesn't even know who she is.

My Opinion: A very nice episode about Vala that had a worthy ending (the episode, not Vala). The good thing about Daniel and Vala is that the writers can make a couple out of them without worrying about Air Force rules. Now I want to know if Vala doesn't really has that tablet.
