Baby Mama, a review by Critter

Baby Mama

Year: 2008

Director: Micheal McCullers

Cast: Tina Fey, Sigourney Weaver, Steve Martin, Holland Taylor, Amy Poehler, Greg Kinnear

Plot: A successful, single businesswoman who dreams of having a baby discovers she is infertile and hires a working class woman to be her unlikely surrogate.

My Thoughts: I found this film to be a very enjoyable, light-hearted comedy that I can see myself watching time and time again. Being a fan of Tina Fey from her 30 Rock and Mean Girls fame I was thrilled to see her teamed up in a film with Poehler. I feel that Fey and Poohler have a great, on screen comedic chemistry which has been displayed throughout many seasons of SNL. While the plot wasn't exactly deep or moving on any levels, which of course I didn't expect it to be, I still found the film very entertaining with quite a few laugh out loud moments. While the two lead women were fantastic I was delightfully surpised with the performances of Steve Martin and Sigourney Weaver who both portrayed interesting, and somewhat eccentric characters. I especially enjoyed seeing Weaver in such a light-hearted role in a comedy as I have been a fan of her from the Aliens franchise for a long time and love seeing her in something other than sci-fi. Overall this was a fun film with plenty of laughs that was definatly carried well by the great cast.

First of this is presented in 1080i, BDInfo shows 1080i/25fps, not that it says anywhere on the cover that it's 1080p but somehow I had got used to films being presented in 1080p. Apart from music BD's I think I have one other film that is 1080i.

As to my thoughts on the film. OK I was confused, I have had another look this morning and I am still confused. This is my first Philip Ridley film and I bought this because the premise looked interesting in the e-tailer reviews and overviews. It does appear, at the beginning, to be a fairly general horror film with the lead character selling his soul to the devil following a major upheaval in his life. But later on it seems to turn into an allegory where the lead is fighting his own demons to find his way forward and eventually accepting his fate.

I may have to watch this again but listening to the director's commentary, I think in all my discs I have only listened to maybe 4 or 5 commentary tracks, to see what he was hoping to show and to see if my view was anywhere near.

At the moment, on the 30th May 2010, I will give this a 2

Dave

Full House
Take three little girls, their recently widowed father, and two of dad's best buddies, put them in the same household, and stand back for a Full House of laughs, love and warmth.

Enjoy all 22 Season One episodes (plus wonderful extras!) of the smash-hit series that ran from 1987 to 1995. Bob Saget plays Danny Tanner, the girls' doting dad. John Stamos is their rock-'n'-rollin' Uncle Jesse. Dave Coulier is Joey, a wannabe comic whose best audience is right at home. And the three Tanner youngsters are played by Candice Cameron, Jodie Sweetin and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who share the role of nine-month-old scene stealer Michelle. Their house is your house!

Our Very First Show
Joey and Jesse's very first day as dads includes that harrowing rite of passage: changing a diaper.

My Thoughts:
While not what I would call a favorite, this series is entertaining. A fun show with a few laughs. The show has a likable cast and is one of those type of shows where most all problems is solved in the one half hour show. It was kind of weird seeing this first episode again... and seeing how long Jesse's hair was at the time. And I must say it was hilarious to see Jesse and Joey trying to change a diaper. At this point I still only have the first season of the series... on of these days I will have to continue collecting this series. As I said... not a favorite but fun.... and I am sure I could get these sets fairly cheap.
