The Tunnel, a review by Danae Cassandra

ANOTHER BONUS SHORT FILM!

Where We Are: South Africa
wikipedia

What We Watched:

The Tunnel
Year of Release: 2010
Starring:  Sibulele Mlumbi
Directed By:  Jenna Bass
Genre:  Drama

Overview:
Focus' Africa First program is an initiative designed exclusively for filmmakers of African nationality and residence, and presents annual awards to the best and brightest from around the continent. After touring film festivals around the world, these Africa First short films are now available for audiences everywhere:

Dyana Gaye's ST. LOUIS BLUES, an invigorating traveling musical; Jenna Bass' THE TUNNEL, a moving story of a young girl in search of her father; Jan-Hendrik Beetge's THE ABYSS BOYS a coming-of-age tale amidst rampant corruption and gang violence; and Wanuri Kahiu's PUMZI a startling vision of the future.

My Thoughts:
This was a really great, really powerful short film about the purges in Zimbabwe in the 1980's.  It's a difficult story too, about the evil that men perpetrate on others.   Highly recommended, very worth watching, but don't expect anything happy.

Bechdel Test:  Pass, barely

Overall:  4.25/5

Catwoman, a review by addicted2dvd

Catwoman

My Thoughts:
I have to say... I have mixed feelings about this movie. I know it is not a "good" movie. But I do find it to be a fun movie. I don't think I have ever read a positive review about this movie anywhere. And I do admit that they all have a point. One of the things I personally dislike about this movie is they take Catwoman out of the Batman universe. But I can forgive it and enjoy the movie for what it is. A leave your brain at the door fun movie... with a very hot looking Halle Berry in a skimpy leather costume. And it does have some decent action in it as well. But I will quickly admit that it takes more then that to make a good movie. But I will give it this much... it is an average fun movie.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

My Thoughts:
Yesterday evening I completed the fourth season (and started season 5). This season is shorter by several episode. This is do to the writers strike in 2007.  Nothing to do with the quality of the show. It is still one of my favorite medical dramas. Four seasons in... and I am still just as hooked on re-watching the series as I was on Thanksgiving Day when I started season one. I am just sad I only have up to season 6 to re-watch.

Out of a Possible 5
