Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge, a review by addicted2dvd

Title: Phantom of the Mall: Eric's Revenge
Movie Count: 16
TV Ep Count: 3
Other Count: 0
Time Started: 9:45am
Plot:
One night, as high school sweethearts Eric Matthews ('Derek Rydall') and Melody Austin ('Kari Whitman') dance in Eric's bedroom to their special song, a raging inferno sweeps the house. Eric shoves Melody through a broken window, but he becomes trapped by a tumbling bookcase. As the fire engulfs Eric, someone douses Melody, who's now lying on the ground, with gasoline. All she can see is a St. Christopher's medal dangling from the arsonist's ear as he opens a book of matches, and she loses consciousness.

One year later, a shopping mall stands on the site of Eric's burned house. No one believed Melody's story, and the fire was forgotten as soon as the Matthews were buried. But the past isn't quite ready to let go of Melody. At the mall where she works with her friends Susie ('Kimer Sissons') and Buzz ('Pauly Shore'), haunting reminders of Eric appear inexplicably, and more ominous events unfold without her knowledge. A security guard vanishes, the mall manager's son has a fatal date with an escalator, and suddenly, a new security guard with a medal earring patrols the mall.

Then, one evening, Melody is attacked in the mall parking lot by a man in a black ski mask. Like an avenging angel, a shadowy figure wounds her assailant then disappears as Mayor Karen Wilton ('Morgan Fairchild') speeds her car across the garage to Melody, and the wounded man escapes.

Now Melody knows for sure that what happened a year ago isn't truly over: someone is trying to hurt her, a mysterious phantom is trying to help her, and it's all tied in to that terrible night...

My Thoughts:
Another Blind Buy that I picked up because it was cheap and sounded like it could be good. At the same time from the title alone you can easily expect a low-budget piece of trash. So I went into this one with low expectations. In this case I was pleasantly surprised... even though it is not the best movie I ever seen... this is an enjoyable movie. It has good characters and some interesting kills. It was definitely better then I was expecting. Unfortunately this dvd has no extras what so ever to go with the movie. But at least with this one I got a movie I can enjoy.

My Rating:
Out of a possible 5:

Young Frankenstein, a review by RossRoy

Young Frankenstein

Director: Mel Brooks
Rating: PG
Length: 106 Min.
Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1
Audio: English: Dolby Digital Mono, French: Dolby Digital Mono, Spanish: Dolby Digital Mono, Commentary: Dolby Digital Stereo
Subtitles: English

What they say
Mel Brooks' monstrously crazy tribute to Mary Shelley's classic pokes hilarious fun at just about every Frankenstein movie ever made. Summoned by a will to his late grandfather's castle in Transylvania, young Dr. Frankenstein (GENE WILDER) soon discovers the scientist's step-by-step manual explaining how to bring a corpse to life.

My Thoughts
What can I say that has not already been said about this movie?

Gene Wilder is magnificent here as Dr. Fronkensteen ;). Actually, the whole cast is great, and they are having fun, and it shows. The jokes are great, the pacing is well done. It totally works as an homage to the old monster movies, mostly Frankenstein of course. So many great moments. This is one of my favorite comedy.

Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Well, dear, are you ready?
Inga: Yes, Doctor.
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Elevate me.
Inga: Now? Right here?
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: Yes, yes, raise the platform.
Inga: Oh. Ze platform. Oh, zat, yah, yah... . yes.

[Frankenstein, Igor and Inga in front of HUGE castle doors]
Dr. Frederick Frankenstein: What knockers.
Inga: Oh, thank you doctor.

Tom's Buffy and Angel Marathon, a review by Tom

03. Witch (1997-03-17)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), Dana Reston (Writer)
Director: Stephen Cragg
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), Kristine Sutherland (Joyce Summers), Elizabeth Anne Allen (Amy), Robin Riker (Catherine), Jim Doughan (Mr. Pole), Nicole Prescott (Lishanne), Amanda Wilmshurst (Senior Cheerleader), William Monaghan (Dr. Gregory)

This belongs to my least favorite episodes of the first season. Though I liked the resolution to the story.
Also I would have liked to see Amy more often. Sadly she came not back often and when she did, she was there to be a bad influence on Willow in later seasons.

04. Teacher's Pet (1997-03-24)
Writer: Joss Whedon (Created By), David Greenwalt (Writer)
Director: Bruce Seth Green
Cast: Sarah Michelle Gellar (Buffy Summers), Nicholas Brendon (Xander Harris), Alyson Hannigan (Willow Rosenberg), Charisma Carpenter (Cordelia Chase), Anthony Stewart Head (Giles), David Boreanaz (Angel), Ken Lerner (Principal Flutie), Musetta Vander (Miss Natalie French), Jackson Price (Blaine), Jean Speegle Howard (Real Miss French), William Monaghan (Dr. Gregory), Jack Knight (Homeless Guy), Michael Ross Verona (Teacher), Karim Oliver (Bud #1)

Probably my least favorite episode of all. Stupid story with no real coherence. No funny jokes which could save the episode.

How did Buffy come to the conclusion that Ms. French is an insect? "Oh, I saw her turning her head 180 degrees. She must be an insect!", "I looked a little into insect books. Of what I have read, she must be a Praying Mantis! Those clothes she's wearing is the final proof for this!"
How convenient that there is a strange vampire around who can sense Ms. French from outside her house. But why did he run up to her the first time around and only when she looked at him, he went running?

The final shot they're hinting that a She-Mantis could be back for another time. Boy am I glad that they never followed up on this!
