John Wayne and Stewart Granger strike it rich in this rousing comedy-adventure set in the heyday of the Alaskan gold rush. When prospectors Sam McCord (Wayne) and George Pratt (Granger) hit the mother lode, George asks Sam to go to Seattle and fetch his sweetheart, Jennie, but she has already married someone else. Determined to bring George a new love, Sam invites a saloon dancer (Capucine) back to Nome as Jennie's replacement.

My Thoughts:

One of the Duke's more light-hearted movies, it plays like a 60's rom-com. Highly entertaining! I've always loved the song North To Alaska by Johnny Horton. A very young Fabian is hilarious as the lovestruck Billy Pratt.

The love interest was played by french beauty Capucine. So gorgeous! Upon reading her bio on IMDB I learned that she was great friends with another beauty, Audrey Hepburn and that she was manic-depressive her whole life, committing suicide in 1990. Pity.  :(

Again, not my favorite John Wayne movie but a fun watch!

Red, a review by Dragonfire

I know I'm behind on posting about this one..and the other movies I've been watching.  I'm going to try to get caught up ...or at least not as far behind.

Red

This one is based on a comic book series that only lasted for a few issues...3 or 6 I think.  I haven't read the comic books, so I don't know what has been changed for the movie.  It follows Frank, a retired CIA agent and shows how he is dealing with life now that he is retired.  Things get interesting once it is clear that someone is trying to kill him.

The action starts fairly early in Red and keeps popping up throughout the movie.  There are explosions and several shoot outs.  The action is a bit over the top and not believable, but it still manages to work for the movie.  And some of the action scenes are just cool.  A bit of humor does turn up throughout the movie and it blends in well with what is going on.

The characters are interesting, though they aren't the most developed.  The cast does really well with their parts.  Frank isn't that different from other parts that Bruce Willis has played, but I still enjoyed the character.  I loved Helen Mirren as Victoria, a former MI6 agent who is deadly with a gun.

Red is entertaining, though I can see it not appealing to some people.

I did get a longer review posted on Epinions after seeing it in the theater.

2016 TV Pilot Reviews, a review by DJ Doena

Lethal Weapon Website
Lethal Weapon @ Wikipedia
Lethal Weapon @ IMDb

Roger Murtaugh is a 50-year old cop recovering from a heart-attack operation and is slowly easing back into active duty.

Martin Riggs is a guy with a death wish and Murtaugh's new partner.

Together they'll crack jokes and bad guys alike.

Nothing much to say premise-wise if you know the original movies. The basic story is the same, the setup is the same.

I'd classify the show as an action comedy because it shows from the start that it's not going to take itself too seriously. You can see that when a car chase takes place on the track of an ongoing Formula 3 (or something similar) race and none of the race drivers are in any way bothered by that or the fact that a guy gets hit by a bus and in typical Hollywood manner (Rest in peace/pieces, Delorean!) the bus will not even stop after the crash.

These guys are not going to solve their cases by staring at some CSI / NCIS high-tech gadget computer, they're going to do it the old-fashioned way.

It's a show where you can relax you brain and just enjoy the ride.
