Monsters, a review by dfmorgan
Year: 2010 Director: Gareth Edwards Cast: Scoot McNairy, Whitney Able Overview: Six years ago NASA discovered the possibility of alien life within our solar system. A probe was launched to collect samples, but crashed upon re-entry over Central America. Soon after, new life forms began to appear and grow. In an effort to stem the destruction that resulted, half of Mexico was quarantined as an INFECTED ZONE. Today, the American and Mexican military still struggle to contain the massive creatures... A jaded US journalist (McNairy) begrudgingly agrees to find his boss' daughter, a shaken American tourist (Able) and escort her through the infected zone to the safety of the US border. Watched: 16th Apr. 2011 My Thoughts: A disappointing bore-fest. I guess I should have read more reviews before purchasing as I expected more science-fiction rather than just a couple rambling. My Rating: (From Dave's DVD/Blu-ray Reviews on April 17th, 2011) Joe Versus the Volcano, a review by KinkyCyborgTitle:Joe Versus the Volcano Year: 1990 Director: John Patrick Shanley Rating: PG Length: 102 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 2.35:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, English: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, French: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround, Japanese: Dolby Digital: Dolby Surround Subtitles: English, French, Japanese, Portuguese, Spanish, Other Stars: Tom Hanks Meg Ryan Lloyd Bridges Robert Stack Abe Vigoda Plot:Extras: Scene Access Feature Trailers Featurettes Production Notes Music Videos Closed Captioned My Thoughts: The first of many pairings for Tom Hanks and Meg Ryan. Silly nonsense with a few chuckles. Abe Vigoda as the Waponi Chief was quite humorous. Hard to believe these kind of movies were Tom Hanks' bread and butter for many years. This was just ok. Plot: You can never have enough Friends. With this DELUXE 4-DISC SET OF THE COMPLETE SEASON ONE, you have more: each episode contains NEVER-BEFORE-SEEN MOMENTS every fan of Friends will savor. And for all loyal patrons of Central Perk, we've brewed up a fresh pot brimming with BONUS FEATURES. Revisit that first year in which Rachel (JENNIFER ANISTON), Monica (COURTENEY COX), Phoebe (LISA KUDROW), Joey (MATT LeBLANC), Chandler (MATTHEW PERRY) and Ross (DAVID SCHWIMMER) first charmed audiences worldwide. You'll be in fabulous company. Friends 1.01 The Pilot Writer: Marta Kauffman (Writer), David Crane (Writer) Director: James Burrows Cast: Jennifer Aniston (Rachel Green), Courteney Cox (Monica Geller), Lisa Kudrow (Phoebe Buffay), Matt Le Blanc (Joey Tribbiani), Matthew Perry (Chandler Bing), David Schwimmer (Ross Geller), John Allen Nelson (Paul), Clea Lewis (Franny), Cynthia Mann (The Waitress), Barry Hine (The Guy in the Coffee House) I never missed an episode when this series originally aired. At first I saw the first few seasons on German TV (pre-DVD and pre-broadband internet era made it hard to be able to see anything in the original language). Soon I discovered English transcripts of the latest episodes on the net and found out this way, that the German translation was horrible compared to the original. The pilot does a good job introducing the characters. But it is hardly one of the better episodes. Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on June 20th, 2011) |
