Extras: Commentary Featurettes Scene Access Trailers My Thoughts: One of the best, if not the best, war movies. This director's cut brings a perfect balance between action scenes and character moments. The suspension during and in-between the attacks is perfectly portayed.I have visited the set of Das Boot a few times in the past. It is part of the Bavaria Film tour. You are able to walk through the narrow U-Boot, where the cast had to stay in for months of shooting. Early hand-held steady-cams were used for the scenes on-board. Rating: (From December Marathons - DISCUSSION AND REVIEW THREAD on December 11th, 2009) The Ugly Truth, a review by addicted2dvdThe Ugly Truth A romantically challenged morning show producer is reluctantly embroiled in a series of outrageous tests by her chauvinistic correspondent to prove his theories on relationships and help her find love. His clever ploys, however, lead to an unexpected result. Stars: Katherine Heigl Gerard Butler Bree Turner Eric Winter Nick Searcy My Thoughts: I came across this one on Starz On-Demand. And I wanted to check it out as I am becoming more and more a fan of Katherine Heigl. It is not a bad movie... but it should have been better. Actually it is pretty average when it comes to Romantic Comedy. Sure Katherine Heigl was both hot and entertaining in it... Gerard Butler was alright in it as well. But this movie is missing a little something I can't quite put my finger on... something that makes for a great romantic comedy. Most of the jokes I have seen before... so it is not terrible original either. But as I said... it does entertain some... and I did like Katherine Heigl. I guess if I found this one cheap enough I would pick it up. But it would have to be under $10 before I would consider it.. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Weekend Movie Marathon: Anything Goes on February 26th, 2010) Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom
Plot: Way too edgy for network TV, this funny, uncensored, naming-names series peels off the glitter of Hollywood moviemaking and exposes the duplicitous but totally addictive, behind-the-scenes truth. Campy, uncesored and very controversial, this "too-close-to reality" show features guest stars that include Keanu Reeves, Salma Hayek, Scott Wolf and Sandra Bullock. Superstar producer Peter Dragon (Jay Mohr, host of TV's "Last Comic Standing") builds his stellar career on the three pillars of show business - prostitution, nepostism and dishonesty. Adding to that an ego as big as a Beverly Hills mansion, the aptly named Dragon and his cohorts manage to be politically incorrect, backstabbing, phony, petty, pissy and most of all -- ingeniously funny! Action 1.01 Pilot Writer: Chris Thompson (Writer) Director: Ted Demme Cast: Jay Mohr (Peter Dragon), Illeana Douglas (Wendy Ward), Jarrad Paul (Adam Rafkin), Jack Plotnick (Stuart Glazer), Buddy Hackett (Uncle Lonnie), Keanu Reeves (Himself), Lee Arenberg (Bobby G.), Cindy Ambuehl (Jane Gianopolis), Michelle Hurd (Gina), Gavin Polone (Dodi), Richard Burgi (Cole Riccardi), Sara Paxton (Georgia Dragon), Hector Contreras (Manny Sanchez), Johnny Grant (Himself) Not a bad series and not a bad first episode, but I never quite grew to like it. Maybe it's because Jay Mohr plays a prick so well, that it's hard to get invested in the character Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on March 25th, 2011) |
