BMX Bandits, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: BMX Bandits Year: 1983 Director: Brian Trenchard-Smith Rating: PG Length: 90 Min. Video: Full Frame 1.33:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: N/A Stars: David Argue John Ley Nicole Kidman Angelo D'Angelo James Lugton Bryan Marshall Plot: Two BMX expert bikers and a friend of theirs (Nicole Kidman) become entangled with a group of bank robbers after discovering a carton of walkie-talkies. Extras: Scene Access My Thoughts: When I found out my friend was sending me this movie in a box of DVDs I was pretty excited. Not only because it is an early role of Nicole Kidman of who I really enjoy. But also because when I was a teen I was big into riding my BMX bike all over town with my friends. Of course not to the extent of these kids.. but it still brought back some fond memories. As soon as I pop it in the first thing I noticed is that the DVD itself is a bit lacking. No extras on the disc what so ever. When you pop in the disc you only have 2 options... Play Movie and Scene Selection. Then I started the movie... and the quality... while not terrible... I mean it is watchable... but it it did feel like I was watching a fairly old VHS copy of the movie. I imagine they just used an old VHS master to make this release. The movie itself was entertaining... I enjoyed it. I found it to just be a fun movie. The kids were great on the bikes... makes me wonder how much was actually them riding. I be especially interested in how much of the actual bike riding Nicole Kidman actually did. Of course most the trick riding was shot from the back or close up shots of the bike itself.. so I imagine not so much of it was actually them. I just wish this movie got a better DVD release then what it did. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From What Movies I Been Watching on August 22nd, 2010) Star Trek II: The Wrath of Khan, a review by DJ DoenaMay, 1st William Shatner ... Admiral James T. Kirk Leonard Nimoy ... Captain Spock DeForest Kelley ... Dr. McCoy James Doohan ... Scotty Walter Koenig ... Pavel Chekov George Takei ... Hikaru Sulu Nichelle Nichols ... Cmdr. Uhura Bibi Besch ... Dr. Carol Marcus Merritt Butrick ... Dr. David Marcus Kirstie Alley ... Lt. Saavik Ricardo Montalban ... Khan Judson Earney Scott ... Joachim Weiss Synopsis: The Enterprise has become a teaching ship and Captain Spock is in command. When Admiral Kirk is on inspection and takes the ship for "a tour around the block" they get a disturbing call from Dr. Marcus. Someone is trying to get his hands on the "Genesis" project, a secret research project to create life on lifeless planets. But this Genesis device could also be used as a terrible weapon. And Kirk's enemy is no other than the genetically enhanced Khan. He tried to kill Kirk and take his ship fifteen years ago. My Opinion: Still a great movie. I really liked how they used the fact that space is three-dimensional, a fact that even especially Sci-Fi shows forget too often. I also liked how Khan used quotes from Moby Dick, but replaced some of the places with astronomical locations. Technically he couldn't have this knowledge, he was in stasis and shortly after his defrosting he was banned to Zeti Alpha 5. He also couldn't know that the Klingons have a proverb: "Revenge is a dish best served cold". But I am willing to overlook that because Montalban was awesome when he said it. And I loved those close combat scenes, it reminded me of the old battles between sailing ships. My Thoughts: I just finished the second season. And still can't seem to stop watching! I am so enjoying revisiting this series. This is a very good season... with lots of familiar faces. Here is some of the guest stars in this season... - Bronson Pinchot - Peter Boyle - Denise Crosby - Cindy Williams - Denise Richards - Isobel Sanford - Sherman Helmsly - Raquel Welch - Robert Culp - John Kapelos - Bruce Campbell - Martin Mull - Ben Stein - Frank Gorshin - Adam West So... Like I said this season has a lot of familiar faces. This season also has the first episode with H.G. Wells and Tempus. Those are definitely among the best episodes. Now off to start watching season 3! I can't believe how hooked I got on this series again! My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on August 5th, 2011) |
