Lake Placid, a review by Danae Cassandra

Lake Placid
Year of Release: 1999
Directed By: Steve Miner
Starring: Bill Pullman, Bridget Fonda, Oliver Platt, Brendan Gleeson, Betty White
Genre: Horror, Comedy

Overview:
Bill Pullman (Independence Day, The Grudge), Bridget Fonda (Jackie Brown), Brendan Gleeson (In Bruges) and Oliver Platt (X-Men: First Class) share an appetite for sheer adventure when a tranquil New England lakefront erupts into an action-packed den of destruction in this "monster of a hit" (Wireless Magazine)!

An investigative team, armed with state-of-the-art equipment, high-powered weaponry and a biting sense of sarcasm, must work together to defeat Black Lake's most ferocious resident: a 30-foot prehistoric crocodile! Written by David E. Kelley (Ally McBeal, Boston Legal), directed by Steve Miner (Halloween H20, Friday The 13th Part 2), and co-starring Betty White as the cantankerous Mrs. Bickerman, this terrifying tale of survival "combines humor and thrills with remarkable deftness" (New York Post).

My Thoughts:
If the hallmark of a good creature film is when you root for the creature, this was a great one. Because I was really rooting for the crocodile to eat people. Especially Bridget Fonda's character. And Oliver Platt's. More Fonda's though, she really got on my nerves. There were scenes that I was like that's supposed to build sympathy for her, so the viewer won't want her to get eaten ... nope, didn't work, still want her to get chomped.

My favorite character was the sherriff - him and Betty White were the only ones I really didn't want the croc to eat.

Aside from really hating Kelly, and mostly hating Hector, the rest of the film is pretty good. The croc is really well done, and they chose a beautiful location to film at. The script moves briskly, and there are hints to the twist at the end if the viewer really pays attention. Recommended for fans of creature features.

My Thoughts:
I have loved this movie for years now... this movie stars Holly Marie Combs (Charmed) and Glenn Quinn (Roseanne, Angel). This is one that I got in the Twisted Terror Collection boxset. When I first saw this movie I didn't know who Holly Marie Combs was... but since this movie I have been infatuated with her every since. Now I am such a huge fan of hers I buy everything I can find with her in it. This movie has a lot of creative kills in it... but I think my favorite of them has to be the stomach pump... that is what I would have to call creative and sickening both at the same time. The only thing I didn't like about this DVD release is there was no extras what so ever... not even the Theatrical Trailer. If you never seen this movie... it definitely comes recommended by me.

My Rating
Out of a Possible 5

Tom's Random Star Trek Reviews, a review by Tom

VOY 7.03 Drive
Writer: Michael Taylor (Writer)
Director: Winrich Kolbe
Cast: Kate Mulgrew (Captain Kathryn Janeway), Robert Beltran (Chakotay), Roxann Dawson (B'Elanna Torres), Robert Duncan McNeill (Tom Paris), Ethan Phillips (Neelix), Robert Picardo (The Doctor), Tim Russ (Tuvok), Jeri Ryan (Seven of Nine), Garrett Wang (Harry Kim), Cyia Batten (Irina), Brian George (O'Zaal), Patrick Kilpatrick (Assan), Robert Tyler (Joxom), Chris Covics (Assistant), Majel Barrett (Computer Voice (voice))

In the final season of Voyager, they finally put more focus on the P/T relationship again.

B'Elanna asks herself the same question as I as a viewer did: It has been three years since the P/T relationship began, but why was there hardly any progress at all?
In this episode Tom takes on a race challenge, forgetting about a romantic getaway B'Elanna had planned. This starts B'Elanna thinking, if it wouldn't be best to break off the relationship.
During the course of the episode, they talk their problems out, Tom proves that his first priority is with her, and they get married.
