House on the Edge of the Park, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: House on the Edge of the Park (1980)

Genre: Crime
Director: Ruggero Deodato
Rating: Unrated
Length: 1h31
Video: Widescreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: None

Stars:
David A. Hess
Giovanni Lombardo Radice
Annie Belle
Lorraine De Selle
Cristian Borromeo

Plot:
HOUSE ON THE EDGE OF THE PARK has no mercy. Right from the start, the evil and violence of Alex (David A. Hess) and his slightly retarded sidekick Ricky (Giovanni Lombardo Radice aka John Morghen), dominate the movie as they rape and strangle a young girl.

After helping a rich couple with their car, they invite themselves to a party. The people at the party seem bored and looking for kicks, unaware of the two madmen in their midst. When the tension is broken, the film descends into an unrelenting collection of repugnant moments of humiliation, rape, mutilation and murder.

My Thoughts:
I've decided to watch this one after Last House on the Left since it's essantially an italian version of Last House set in the city. I think the plot is honest for what this film is since this is exactly the movie, don't expect any comic relief or genre shifting. I will not comment on David Hess again since in this film he plays Krugg Stillo with a different name. Giovanni Lombardo Radice give the best performance of his career (not with his voice since the movie is dub, but with the gestuals and expressions he use to play a retard). The rest of the cast isn't better or worse than any others italian exploitation films made in this period. But you will see many familliar faces in it : Annie Belle (Bacchanales sexuelles), Lorraine De Selle (Cannibal ferox), Christian Borromeo (Tenebre) and Brigitte Petronio (Emanuelle Around the World) are all easilly recognizable. The movie is violent and some of the scenes are pretty realist (the effect for the slicing of Cindy is particullary well done). You have the same vibe from the beginning untill the end. The movie had a twist ending that make absolutly no sense when you think of it more than 3 seconds, but I can live with that. Riz Ortolani had written another good musical score for this one. My only problem with this film is the english dubbing that is ridicule by moment.

It's italian exploitation so you get a lot of nudity if you don't like the violence...

Unholy, a review by addicted2dvd

Weekend Movie Marathon
1/18 - 1/20
This weekend I decided against having any type of theme for my Marathon... Thought I would just go with anything from my collection.... as the mood hits. Whether I seen it or not... whether it is old or new... no matter the genre or who is in it. All is fair game this weekend! So this weekend I watched...

Unholy
'Adrienne Barbeau' (of THE FOG, SWAMP THING and CREEPSHOW fame) and 'Nicholas Brendon' (Xander of 'BUFFY THE VAMPIRE SLAYER') star in this provocative shocker about a mother's investigation into the grisly suicide of her daughter. But what begins as a family tragedy will soon lead to a conspiracy of bizarre crimes, occult carnage and a necromancer who may control a dark new trinity of warfare. How far would our government go to harness a Nazi legacy of paranormal power? Has the U.S. military secretly attempted to develop time travel, invisibility and mind-control as weapons? The answers wait in a mind-blowing journey that will take one woman from the trauma of the unimaginable to the ultimate horror of the 'UNHOLY'.

My Thoughts:
This movie was a blind buy. The only thing I saw was the trailer online one day. It looked interesting so thought I would check it out. This movie wasn't terrible... but was far from great. I would say it is no more then an OK movie. I actually found it to be a bit on the weird side. I have become a fan of Adrienne Barbeau... though she didn't do her best work in this movie. I like Nicholas Brendon as Xander in the Buffy series... and this is the first time I seen him in another role. I thought he did a pretty good job in this movie... just wish it was a better movie for him to shine in. Over-all I would score this movie at about a 5 out of 10 rating. I would say if you are curios about this one... wait and catch it on cable.

I loved Knight Rider as a kid. And I still enjoy watching it. Also it has a great opening theme.
This pilot started great. I enjoyed the introduction of KITT and Michael Knight. But when they go on their mission, it ends up being an average episode.
