Demon Seed, a review by addicted2dvd

Demon Seed
Susan Harris is alone in the house when, suddenly, doors lock, windows slam shut and the phone stops working. Susan is trapped by an intruder...but this is no ordinary thug. Instead, the intruder is a computer named Proteus, an artificial brain that has learned to reason. And to terrorize.

In "one of her finest, most vulnerable performances" (Danny Peary, 'Guide for the Film Fanatic'), Julie Christie plays Susan in this taut techno-thriller based on the Dean Koontz novel. Packed with suspense, surprise and special effects, 'Demon Seed' follows Susan's desperate attempts to outmaneuver and outthink her captor. Then Susan learns what Proteus wants: its own child, conceived in her womb and destined for domination.

My Thoughts:
Once again... not impressed. I loss interest in this movie pretty early on. Before I knew it I found myself on the computer with the movie running in the background. I found a couple odd spots interesting... but for the most part I just found it to be boring. I have read on many forums that this is a very popular movie. But I am afraid I just don't see it. At least I got this one cheap (Under $5) so I can't complain too much.

The Day of the Jackal, a review by Jimmy

MOVIE / DVD INFO:

Title: The Day of the Jackal (1973)

Genre: Political Thriller
Director:  Fred Zinnemann
Rating: PG
Length: 2h23
Video: Widescreen
Audio: English
Subtitles: English, French and Spanish

Stars:
Edward Fox
Terence Alexander
Michel Auclair
Alan Badel
Tony Britton

Plot:
Based on Frederick Forsyth's best-selling novel of political intrigue, 'The Day of the Jackal' tells of a cold, suave British assassin hired by the French OAS to kill General Charles de Gaulle. Nameless and faceless, the killer, known by the code name of Jackal (Edward Fox), relentlessly moves toward the date with death that would rock the world. The tension mounts as the methodical preparations of the Jackal are paralleled with the efforts of the police to uncover the plot, which gives the story non-stop, edge-of-your-seat suspense.

My Thoughts:
I know this film is certainly much more known that every others I've reviewed here previously, but we never know maybe it's an unknown one for some members. This film was americanize in 97 and it's the first time that I watch the original one (it was a part of my wishlist for a long time but I've finally got it sooner this year from Eric). The story looks more credible for me in this film. Firstly the target is a real person (I can add that he is the most respected French President for a large part of my province and I am a part of them. As a nation we owe a lot to him) and the reason for killing is completly believable. Secondly the Jackal isn't an over the top killer, he looks and acts like a normal person, for me this is more a credible representation of how those political assasin works. Thirdly the Jackal doesn't look invinsible, he can make error and the director doesn't need to make than obvious1. Don't expect an over the top action festival this isn't The Jackal or Jason Bourne, but if you expect a believable thriller that will catch your attention for all its running time and great acting (I was really impress by Edward Fox) this one is for you. The only little critic that I could make, even if I can understand the reasonning, is the fact that the French don't use their native language when they speak to each other (by exemple in the crisis cabinet reunion). Like I've said I understand the reason (most people don't watch movie to read a book) but this would have add more reality to the story.

No problem to recommand this one. You see I don't watch only obscure dirty movie

Charmed Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

Disc 5:

16. Saving Private Leo
When two ghosts seeking revenge on Leo kill Piper, Phoebe and Paige face the horror of losing another sister.

My Thoughts:
Excellent episode! Is one of my favorites. In this episode we learn a lot about Leo's past. Which I found really interesting.

17. Bite Me
Trying to unseat Cole as ruler of the Underworld, a vampire queen turns Paige into a bloodsucker and urges her to feed on Phoebe and Piper.

My Thoughts:
Another excellent episode. I love pretty much anything to do with vampires... so this is another of my favorite episodes. And lets face it... Paige made one hot looking vampire!

18. We're Off To See The Wizard
Piper and Paige help a wizard stop the coronation of a new Source, unaware that Cole is the Underworld head and Phoebe is his Evil Queen.

My Thoughts:
This one I didn't think to much of. Everyone finds out about Cole in this episode... and Phoebe being pregnant with his child gives in to her own evil urges. As I said many times I do not like Cole. Plus I never cared for the Wizard (thought it was ridiculous how he was done) in this episode... so between the 2 of them this episode pretty much sucked for me.

19. Long Live The Queen
When Phoebe helps her sisters save an innocent, she and Cole face a bloody coup unless she proves her dark allegiance by killing Piper and Paige.

My Thoughts:
Going into this one today... I could have sworn this was one of the ones I didn't care for. But I was wrong. This was a really good... strong episode. I really enjoyed every minute of it. Phoebe really had a fight within herself in this episode. And even though I know we haven't seen the end of him... I definitely enjoyed seeing Cole get blown up.
