Technically, The Three Stooges don't belong since their original shorts played in theaters first, not on TV.

As far as stuff left off, what about the Star Trek movies?

addicted2dvd

Of course! I have them all... somehow missed adding them to the list though.

I loved "Shaft".

More a Rip-Off than a movie based on the series, but nevertheless a fun-watch, is "Starsky & Hutch".

Starsky and Hutch is another one I missed putting in my list. I have (and enjoyed) that one as well.

Wouldn't Batman and Green Hornet be considered to be based on the comics rather than on the TV shows?

Serenity, which is based on/continues Firefly. Great movie to a great series.

Not great, but could count as being based on a series/cartoon: Masters of the Universe
Or the Scooby Doo movies.

Mustrum_Ridcully

Not to forget the several great movies that resulted from "The Muppet Show" and "The Simpsons Movie"

Well the tv shows were before the movies <G>

Wild Wild West was based on a TV series wasn't it? I do have that one as well... been years since I seen it.

I feel the same as Gunnar when it came to Batman and Green Hornet... or you could add all the Superman movies.. all the Spider-Man movies... all the Fantastic Four movies. Pretty much most the comic book films.

I also feel like a continuation with the same cast is something different then what I am talking about here. I consider them more a reunion movie then anything else.

Wrong!  Batman and Green Hornet both were in the movies first, in movie serials of the 1940s...of course Tim Burton's Bat man wasn't based on the Batman series regardless.  And I'm not positive but Green Hornet may have originated on old time radio.

Dragonfire

I think Green Hornet was a radio show first.
I do believe that Batman and Superman were in the comics before the first of the serials started.  The serials were done because the comics were so popular..which lead to the tv shows...the movies...etc.

Absolutely correct about Batman and Superman.  Superman debuted first in Action Comics #1 (1938) and Batman debuted a year later in Detective Comics #27.  Superman debuted on film first in a series of cartoons from the Max Fleischer Studios (in theaters).  I think the first of those came out either in 1941 or 1942.  The first Batman serial came out in 1945, I think...I could be off a year.
