Topic: Never Ending Movie Marathon (short reviews)

Like you, this is my favourite of the series. I'm also not a fan of Tom Cruise at all, both in movies and in interviews, but in the M:I movies, I manage to look past that. I'm always up for more sequels if I'm enjoying a series, so I'll be up for a fifth. Nothing like running a franchise into the ground. IMDB have a page for a fifth, so I assume it's at the least, rumoured.

Oh, i havent checked the IMDB yet. And there is something about Tom Cruise that i cant stand. (sorry TC fans) but as you, i look past that in the M:I series. I've seen a few movies with him, outside the M:I series. That i didnt like at all. But if there will be a M:I 5. I hope they take a step further. Like that did with the nr. 4. I guess where they see its a penny to get made, they will do it. But what i'm afraid of is that they will 'overdo' the franchise. And ruin the whole thing. (Like people have done with other movie series before.) Will be interesting to see what happens.

Well, if they do make M:I 5, I hope Jeremy Renner is included in the cast again because he was the highlight for me in this one. I loved the way they added the fact he knew Ethan:

Renner was shadowing Ethan and his wife in Croatia, wife was killed (turns out to later not be dead) and so he stops being a field agent and became an analyst. They also use this as the backdrop/cover for putting Ethan in jail by saying he killed six Serbs in retaliation for his wife's 'murder'.

Yeah, that was a surprisingly nice touch imo. And IF there would be a movie number 5, i would like them to bring back Paula Patton aswell. I liked her in the movie.
And i think she's kinda hot too

The way the fourth ended with Ethan and his wife looking at each other from afar and then Ethan disappearing, I would hope that bringing back his wife would be a major plot point in a fifth.

Take the SAW franchise. They did great with so many movies. But then again, look at others, that didnt do well at all So whats enough?

Is there such a thing as enough? You can have a great first film, followed by several crap films, followed by a great 5th movie. Is it worth the crap to get to the good? Absolutely. They wouldn't make the sequels if they didn' have the fan base, so as long as they keep making money, the movies will continue to come.

Take Bond for example... over 20 films. Sure, a couple haven't been great, but it's hit the stride again. Same with Batman. Sure, not strictly sequels, but would you have said we had had enough of both these a few years ago?

I cant answer for Batman (since i havent seen much of it.) Batman Begins and Dark Knight. And i loved Dark Knight. But i can answer for the James Bond. Sure 20 movies +. Was everyone equal good? Not at all. But i've watched them all. (So i take your point there.) But for me, there is something special with James Bond, that keep me watching it. And i am a big fan of the oldschool James Bond. And Casino Royale (the newest one)
But take the Hostel Saga f.ex. I loved the first 2 movies. But when i watched the movie number 3. Wow i got disappointed. IMHO i think Tarantino draged it a bit to far, and there is talk about a number 4. And IF they do that. I'm not sure if i'll watch that one. After what they did with the number 3. (And i love a good horror movie\story)

But my point is, just because the third was bad, doesn't mean the fourth will be. (I've only seen 1 & 2 for Hostel).

Hehe, very good point. But the possibility is when the 3rd is bad. Why would the 4th be better? But i get your point. And i have to watch the trailer(s) before i decide. Even though most of the trailers can be very deceiving sometimes. I'll try to write a review about the last hostel movie. (but if you liked the hostel 1 & 2, i recommend you to check out the trailer, for the number 3.)

I really like the F&F franchise.. But the Fast Five, i didnt like it that much. The story in that movie wasnt very F&F like to me. But i see that there will be a number 6, so it will be interesting to see how that works out.

Strippers vs. Werewolves (2012)

Overview:
At the Silvadollaz strip club, a stripper named Justice performs a private lap dance for Mickey, a man who violates the no-touching policy ... by sprouting fangs and claws and trying to eat her! Justice panics and takes the only option open to her: she drives a silver fountain pen through Mickey s eye, into his brain, killing him instantly. Oops... Jeanette, the club s owner, believes murdering customers is bad for business, so she orders the club s bouncer to quietly dispose of the body. There the matter should end ... if Mickey hadn t been a member of a bloodthirsty and vengeful pack of werewolves. When Mickey s corpse surfaces, Jack Ferris, the werewolves charming and vicious leader, swears bloody vengeance and sends his pack out to hunt down the killers. Little does he know, Justice is actually the fiancée of his second in command, Scott. To make matters worse, Justice bites Scott during sex and now may be infected with the curse of lycanthropy herself. Add to the mix werewolf Barker, the masturbating man-child; Sinclair, the occultist with low self-esteem; a bevy of the most beautiful women this side of heaven and you have the perfect recipe for balls to the wall, skimpily clad, strippers on werewolves action-packed goodness. Strippers vs Werewolves - stripping has never been this hairy!

My Thoughts:
With a title like Strippers vs. Werewolves, I obviously went into this movie with low expectations. Unfortunately, despite how low my hopes were for this British comedy horror, I was still left disappointed. As far as casting goes, the choices made were not too bad. We have some half-decent British lower-end television talent with lots of experience from shows like The Bill and Eastenders, but they all were not as good as they have been on television which was a shame. The effects were poor for the most, with the werewolf make-up making Michael J. Fox in Teen Wolf look scary. The dialogue seemed hastily written and the storyline practically non-existant with some unrequired scenes that have obviously been added to pad out the runtime. It's not a total loss though thanks to a good little cameo from Robert Englund and some good dry humour in parts. Still, it's not enough to tell anyone to watch it. Skip it. 1.5/5

Assassins (1995)

Overview:
Robert Rath is the best hitman around, but the code and sense of duty that once were part of his deadly career are lost in a post-Cold War world of freelance guns. He wants out. Not so Miguel Bain, a driven killer who knows how to claim the top spot of his shadowy profession: eliminate Rath.
The action hit hard and fast when Sylvester Stallion as Rath and Antonio Banderas as Bain square off as Assassins. Julianne Moore plays the wily hacker swept into the duo's fierce running battle. Director Richard Donner infuses this tail with exciting action riffs plunging you into a world where what counts is not making the first move, but surviving the last.

My Thoughts:
Assassins is a film with a pretty good headlining cast of Sylvester Stallone, Antonio Banderas and Julianne Moore. Stallone turns in his typical actioner performance, Banderas is a bit better in the more tense scenes but the real star is Moore, who effortlessly glides through her easy role here. The storyline is that of a fairly standard thriller, held together well with some good set pieces and plenty of emphasis placed on the past between Banderas and Stallone. Richard Donner gives the movie a nice feel but some scenes feel drawn out and the ending takes forever to come. Rent it. 3/5

Road Trip (2000)

My Thoughts:
The first time I watched Road Trip, I enjoyed it, but didn't think it was quite good enough to recommend. Upon this viewing, I'm thinking that perhaps I was a little harsh on Todd Phillips' movie directorial debut and it's obvious to see how he would adapt into one of the better mainstream comedy directors currently out there. The storyline is simple and never tries to be anything else other than a string of funny events as as a college guy (Breckin Meyer) and his friends drive cross country to intercept a 'sex' tape accidentally mailed to his long distance girlfriend. The most well cast person here is easily Seann William Scott who keeps a similar persona for his character here as found in American Pie. There are a couple of other enjoyable smaller roles that made me laugh also, like Ethan Suplee and the ever-brilliant Betty White. If you like teen comedies, this is one of the better ones and holds up to a repeat viewing. Recommended. 3.5/5
