Hmmm, sounds like Titanic!
So it's a love story in a 3-D forest with an annoying Celine Dion's song in it? Hey I haven't seen it and probably not.

Leona Lewis instead! Which is an improvement, but they're both from similar stables and breeding. No pun intended.  Laugh

I still haven't seen it yet, but the reviews (Karsten's being the latest I've read! Wink) all seem to agree that once you're past the wow factor, it's just a pile of so much nothing. Hmmm, sounds like Titanic!

I've been and watched it twice and have loved it both times. I do suspect that when it comes time to watch the DVD version then I may be a little less enthralled by it.
The script is not the strongest, but I don't care TBH. It could be argued that my favourite films all suffer from having poor scripts, but that doesn't mean that I dislike them for that fact.

Animated Feature Film
“Coraline”
“Fantastic Mr. Fox”
“The Princess and the Frog”
“The Secret of Kells”
“Up”

I'm not much into animated movies, but every now and then one grabs my attention, like Persepolis or Sita Sings the Blues. Of the nominees, I've only seen Coraline, which I liked well enough. But now I've read about The Secret of Kells in an entry called the Oscar Mystery Nomination by a guest blogger at Roger Ebert's blog. Looks like this could be another hidden gem.

That does look good. Unfortunately, it has some stiff competition.

Yeah, I don't expect it to win. Or Coraline for that matter. But neither Anderson, Disney or Pixar hold any interest to me, so I'm glad the Oscars made me at least discover something I might have completely overlooked otherwise.

Empire did a nice feature on it actually. I apologise, as I had meant to post a link to the trailer before:

Quote from: Empire Article
We won the audience award in the Edinburgh film festival and we were talking to some UK distributors then but none of them picked it up

That's a damn shame, but maybe the Oscar nomination will change that. Also, there seems to be an Irish DVD available already.

Well, Sandra Bullock got the Razzie for worst actress (All About Steve). Have to say, love her for this speech! I suppose it's easy to laugh it off when you might be taking the Oscar in a few hours, but still, very funny... Laugh

So who is watching these so far? I loved that horror montage. Just a shame about the presenters...

I'm watching.  I do every year.

Ahhh...the horror montage was the one that Kristen Stewart introduced isn't it?  Still don't know why she was there.

What puzzled me even more was how a tiny clip from 'New Moon' got into the horror montage. It's supposed to be horror, not some crappy mopey teenage lovefest.

You know, every year after they're over, the buzz in entertainment is, How can we improve Academy Awards Show?

I've come to the conclusion, in the last few years, that is impossible to improve them as long as we pretty much know the winners ahead of time. There are no surprises anymore, and it's just a bloated, ego-driven snoozefest.

What really drove me crazy this year, was the the ridiculously short amount of time for the In Memoriam montage. For Christ's sake, more than 20 or so people passed away last year, but they finish it off in less than two minutes!  Thumb down ! Yet I have to sit through close to 6 minutes of interpretive dance routines for musical score. Yuck ! Suicide

I've watched these awards every year for the last 30 years. Over the last 5 years, I've said that it would be my last each time. I think this year may have pushed me past the point of returning.  Thumb down !
