Any Must-See Movies 2009 for you?

Stumbled upon this DVDTimes cinema review for Franklyn, an UK-made gothic fantasy. The pictures look interesting, although the review is a bit lukewarm.

Ok, this looks very cheap, but also quite good. In fact it could be great because this sort of thing is very hard to get right. Seems to have attitude. Directed by Russell Mulcahy (Highlander) and starring Thomas Jane, with Ving Rhames. He has the best line right at the end of the trailer, which also features a fleeting boob. And you can never argue with a fleeting boob.

As much as this film look stupid this is the first movie post in this topic that catch my attention (you know my taste ). I will buy the dvd for sure, just the fact that Debbie Gibson is the star of this is enough for me (I was in love with her when I was a teenager some moons ago...)

The Expendables = Jason Statham,  Mickey Rourke, Sylvester Stallone, Jet Li, Dolph Lundgren, Eric Roberts, Steve Austin, Gary Daniels, Randy Couture    - I really don't know if the cinema is going to be able to contain the awesomosity of this. I know that if Chuck Norris and Vin Diesel were in this then it couldn't.

Saw the trailer the other day and thought it looked cool, unfortunately the "story" it's supposed to tell is not promising at all.

It just looks as fun as the old HGL productions. Can't wait to see it released

I liked it overall.  It is a bit tamer than the first three thanks to the PG-13 rating.  It is kind of odd for a Terminator movie to have that rating.  The action is decent and it is cool to see more of the different types of machines.  The plot is interesting, though certain things are predictable overall.  It isn't as good as the second movie, but I liked it a bit more than the third one.

So here's my , not so much Must-See films, but I went through the trailers Apple offered me via Front Row (delivered to my computer, not on their site) and this is what I liked:

Gran Torino (maybe the closest we'll ever get to see Dirty Harry 5 )
Slumdog Millionaire
Revolutionary Road (if the trailer is anything to go by, at least some good acting)

...and for the fun side of life:
Star Trek
Push (n o idea where that came from, but the trailer was entertaining)
Underworld: Rise of the Lycans (looks like it could kick some serious butt)
X-Men Origins (although that trailer had me utterly confused...)
Monsters vs. Aliens
Transformers 2 (well, they didn't actually have trailer, but it should be fun and it's coming sometime this year)

...and maybe
Up (typical Pixar trailer, didn't really spark with me, but then they usually end up adorable anyway)

let's see how I am doing so far...

Of the above list I have watched too films (Star Trek and Slumdog Millionaire), which I both enjoyed. Six films have come and gone without me bothering at all; well, I never said they were must see, just that they appeared interesting. Two are still to come (Transformers and Up) which I strongly intend to see at the theaters.

Matter of fact, I have seen the full trailer for Up today. The story as hinted at still didn't spark with me but it became obvious now that, as typical for Pixar, it's all in the details. The little moments stand out from the trailer and make me really looking forward to it. It does, however, not to have the same technical base as Wall-E and seems a bit more "conventional" CG.

Ahem. It looks like we get proper films this year, people! One of my favourite directors, teaming with a pair of actors who always give value for money, and channelling a modern classic...

Michael Mann, with Bale and Depp, mix with the Untouchables and apply a little... Heat? Oh, I'm there already!

Saw the full length trailer on the big screen for this today. Not entirely sold but like you said, it's Man directing Depp and Bale, they should have a hard time going completely wrong.
