R.I.P. Flash Drive
« on: June 27, 2008, 03:50:46 PM »
A few moments ago an inconsiderated kick broke the neck of my flash drive. Fortunately all data could be backed up before it became braindead.

It looks like this:

It's supposed to look like this:

That sucks!

I had an 8GB flash drive that bit the bullet the same way last year. My niece (2 years old at the time) kicked a box right into the computer, that was sitting on the floor with the USB key plugged in the front port. Needless to say, I learned my lesson, and now have both a USB hub, and a USB cable extension, just in case ;)

And that's actually something I'm really worried about for my USB portable hard drive. It uses one those standard mini usb plug, but it feels so flimsy when I plug it in, I'm scared it might get torn right off :fingerchew:

My son has one that looks just like that he's been using for about a year now.  Say's it works fine. I've told him to replace the thing befire it breaks to the point where he can't use it anymore. He usually replies with something similar to "meh"

... kid's lazy, what can I say.  :)
