I just have to know before I go on any Twilight-hate rants which sometimes slip out. I just heard that Twilighters have formed their own relgion which was cue for a fresh onslaught of ranting.

I've read the books and seen the first movie, but I don't consider myself a fan.  They were just alright.

Frankly, I'm tired of all the New Moon promotion going on.

Tired of it? I would actually consider blowing up Stephanie Meyers house (yes the hate is intense). I'm so sick of seeing nothing but Twilight crap on tv the past week. Also I have read all 4 books and watched the movie twice so this isn't empty hate. I know the material that I loathe very well.

I have to admit, I've never seen or read any movie/book, but from what I heard it's kitsch to the extreme and it doesn't sound like I'd like it.

Not a fan of the story or the actors, but I sure like all those big shots of Canada there were in the film 

To those of you who haven't read the books I can tell you now that it's like someone gave a typewriter to an almost literate chimp and told them to spew out a crappy story.

The only positive I can say about it is that the scenery is rather nice at times.

Haha I'm an 18 year old girl and apparently that means I'm supposed to like it. Things couldn't be more different.

Definitely wouldn't call myself a fan... but I don't have hate for it. Lets put it this way. I never read any of the books (really don't read any books) and being the HUGE vampire fan that I am... I consider the first movie OK at best. disappointing for the most part. Even with that said... I won't be able to stop myself from watching the next one.  

Haha Pete I'm a massive vampire fan as well. A huge fan of real vampires anyway, basically ones that don't 'sparkle' in sunlight. That must have been one of the lamest things I've ever seen.

Oh don't get me started on that sparkle crap! When I told my niece and sis-in-law (who got me the DVD) about the movie (my niece loves the movie so she wanted me to have it) I told them that the whole sparkle thing is what disgusted me the most about the movie.

I don't think I've ever been as emotional invested in a movie as much as you seem to Critter. I'm sure my dealing with day to day triumphs and tragedies in critical care makes me unable or unwilling to get worked up over a film. I couldn't, no - I don't want to - waste that much emotional energy on something not real. There are rare exceptions, and those are almost always documentaries - something real.

As far as Twilight is concerned, I read the first book and thought it was merely average - maybe slightly below average. Of course I am a bit biased because I have never cared for romantic books and that is how I see Twilight - as a romance with vampires.

I have read literally thousands, maybe tens of thousands, of books over the years. I can not think of a single series in which, after reading the first in the series, I didn't read the entire series...except for Twilight. I just found it to long and boring for my taste. If someone gives me the rest of the series I might read it...some day.

But, even after only reading the first book, I decided to get the DVD. I'm afraid I thought the film was just okay also. Some of the visual effects were pretty cool - I even thought the sparkles were all right. I'm like Pete on this one, I will probably get the second film. I think the development of the wolves will be interesting and I'd like to see it on film.

I'm not much of a TV watcher so I miss most of the hoopla surrounding the Twilight promotion but I remember other fan frenzy craziness. The Beatles, Elvis, heck even David Cassidy of the Partridge Family used to drive the teenagers wild. And this was before 24/7 news coverage. Fans or authors forming a religion based on film, books or music?...been there...done that.

Oh my goodness, I sound like my grandfather...back when I was young...

Hmm, so now I have more time to explain my reason for disliking the film.

I read the first book, didn't enjoy the writing style, I found it slow and kind of boring.

as for the film, im not a fan of the actors and when something is surrounded by so much hype as Twilight was im often skeptical of it, more so as i had read the book. I borrowed the DVD from a friend and as I said I wasn't impressed but I really like those long shots of Canada they used, ive never been to Canada but my Grandfather lives there, it was nice to see the type of scenery they always tell me about.

Ok so, like Kathy, im not going to get to emotional about a film ie.. I don't wan't to blow the author up, I have not seen that much promotion for this film except at the cinema, where I expect it.

As for the wolves, I was a little confused at first when i was told the guy turns into a wolf and not a werewolf :S but then in American Werewolf in London, doesn't David turn into what pretty much looks like a wolf?

  Maybe a wolf on a massive amount of steroids!



But this isn't the first time I seen in Vampire movies that a vampire could turn into a werewolf. Seen it in several... one that comes right to mind would be Fright Night. Evil Ed.
