It's going to take a little while for me to get used to the search!

I was just about to lose some time looking for how to make Windows show the extension of known file type... when I suddenly realized I just had to type "file extension" in the search!

Question to our resident new Windows specialists:

I see options to prevent themes from changing the mouse cursor and desktop icons... is there anything to prevent themes from changing the Sound Scheme? That annoying "start navigation" sound is driving me nuts!... guess I could always delete the sound file itself

Seb I don't know if you can prevent the Theme from changing them but I believe if you deactivate the sound for a certain event altogether then Windows simply won't play it no matter what it is.

Right anywhere in your desktop and choose "Personalize" from the menu.  At the bottom of the Personalization screen you'll have an icon for "Sounds", that will take you the sounds setting.  From there I there I believe you only need to find the event in question and set the corresponding sound to "None"......although I have never done it

I did find how to disable that sound (it's actually always the first thing I do on any fresh install).. but I've had to disable it 4 times just today while I was playing around with themes and such.. very annoying!

Personally I would call this a bug.  If you specifically disable a sound in the sound control system it shouldn't be re-enabled by anything.

Suggestion: Make a 2 seconds long wave file with nothing but silence in it and save it on top of the one you don't want to hear.  Of course you do know that making a backup of that original wave is recommended good practice.................not that any of us has ever done that but.....................

HA! Like I'd want a backup of that sound! This sound should be obliterated! Erased from history, as if it had never existed! Who in their right mind want to hear "click-tik" every single <censored> time you click on anything? <shudders>

The worst thing is, I did create a new sound scheme after disabling some of the sounds I hate, but every time I change themes, the default windows theme is brought back...

oh well, Once I settle on a theme (which I've pretty much done already) it'll be a non-issue

When I double-click directly onto the video image, it resizes it to full screen overlay.

When you right-click below the title bar the context menu will open. Choose View->Video size and toy with the settings there.

Thanks, set it to 200% which now results in a larger window on resize, was hoping there was a way to play the DVD in the first player (picture 1) instead of the second player (picture 2) which now launches when you play a DVD.

Try to play with the AutoPlay options in the Control Panel

When I use Media Player as DVD Player it always starts overlayed and when resized then about 720 pixels wide (as encoded on disc). I have both "Fit ..." options enabled.

But I am using VLC player anyway. When I try to move Media Player onto the secondary screen the screen sometimes freezes while the audio gets on. Then after a few seconds the picture literally catches up until syncronized and a bit later the game begins anew. Also VLC player goes directly to the main menu when inserting a disc instead of showing all these disclaimers and stuff.

I set all auto play options to "Take no action"

And windows 7 scores again.  I have to hard drives in my PC at work (C and D).  I pressed the Windows key on my keyboard and then entered D: in the text box.......all the folders on my D drive appeared right there in the start menu and I could open the one I wanted right away.
