My Cable System Removing A Movie Channel

I am on the cheapest version of digital cable, getting what is called the Digital Starter package.  I recently got word that I would lose Encore's MoviePlex channel at the end of June.  For the most part, it's not really that big a deal for me except for Wednesdays.  They broadcast different kinds of programming each day and Wednesdays is Westerns Day (I guess we get their programming that day from their Westerns channel).  Lately, besides westerns movies, they have been showing episodes of Cheyenne, The Gene Autry Show and Maverick.  Luckily, I have such a large DVD l ibrary of western movies and TV shows that it won't bother too much but they do occasionally show a m ovie I'd like to see.  Ah well.  What they are doing is moving this channel from the Digital Starter lineup to the Digital Classic lineup (which I don't get).  They are giving me something in return...Lifetime Movie Network.  Big wow.   :yucky:

It seems like Comcast is always moving things around!

I have some of the Encore channels, but not MoviePlex.
My mom and stepdad are always watching things on the Encore Western channel.

Today is probably the last day I'll get westerns on this channel...it's Wednesday, after all.  They should take the channel away around Monday.  They seem to give us more TV series than movies now on Westerns Wednesdays...Cheyenne, The Gene Autry Show, Maverick, etc.  I did catch a few minutes of The Left-Handed Gun, the movie that featured Paul Newman as Billy the Kid.  This movie made a major mistake, of course...because Billy the Kid was not left-handed!  I also noticed the beginning of a movie called The Yellow Tomahawk.  The credits stated it to be a color film...but they were showing a black & white print of it!  Maybe it's better I don't get this channel anymore...

Well, I received another note from Comcast today and this latest one makes it sound like they've changed their minds and I won't be losing the Encore MoviePlex channel after all.  I'll still get the Lifetime Movie Network, too, but I really doubt I'll ever really watch what they show...I never think to check on those channels in the higher-numbered settings anyway  :stars:

at least you aren't loosing it after all.  :)

Cable companies are good at doing stuff like this.

Hmmm...I thought Lifetime Movie Network was supposed to have been added to the level I'm at by now, but so far I'm not getting it.

On the other hand, I got another notice card from Comcast today...a number of other channels are being added to the level (the el cheapo level) I'm at...only about two might have any interest to me, though.  The main one is The Biography Channel...I used to love the Biography program back when it was a series on A&E...heck, I even subscribed to the magazine...then it got it's own channel and I never got to see it again.  So now I can see some episodes of that again, plus whatever else their air on that channel.  There's also something called History International...is that an offshoot of The History Channel?  The other channels they're adding are Bloomberg, C-Span 3, a couple shopping channels and some religious channels.  If only they'd add Westerns to my cheap level...

Unfortunately, most of what they add to the lower levels is stuff most people don't want.  Every so often you get lucky and get a good channel, but too often, it is junk like another shopping channel or golf channel or something.

Even though I don't watch it as much as I would like to... I would say that the best out of that selection is definitely the Biography channel.

No love for the shopping channel? I've something like that with my cable and this is probably one of the funiest channel to watch

Dragonfire

Well that is true..sometimes the stuff on them is funny.

Despite what I wrote before about getting The Biography Channel, I still can't get it...I go there and get the dreaded "Not Authorized" box.  Comcast lies!!!
