I've made some order from the UK branch of Amazon and I've just see something. This is not really important, but what is the meaning of the letter after the name? EU is certainly Europe, but for the rest

Amazon EU S.à.r.L.

S.à.r.L.

Société à Responsabilité Limitée
from CorporateInformation.com

I guess Amazon in Europe was registered in a french speaking country!

Thanks Sebastien, nice to know.

Seems it's the same as GmbH in Germany; not that that is helpful to Jimmy...

Is it the same as just Ltd. in the US or if not, then what is?

Jimmy

Thanks Sebastien. Never think of a french expression for the letter since they are base on England. Maybe it's a remains of the time when all the European continent was speaking French a long long time ago...

I didn't find it on Amazon.co.uk. but Amazon.de revealed the "secret base" ;)

According to the masthead

Amazon.de is the trading name for Amazon EU Sàrl and Amazon Services Europe S.à.r.l. This website (except for Marketplace, Auctions and ZShops) is managed by Amazon EU S.a.r.l., 5, Rue Plaetis - 2338 Luxembourg (VAT ID: DE 814584193). The Amazon.de Marketplace, Auction and ZShops platform is managed by Amazon Services Europe S.a.r.l, 5, Rue Plaetis, L-2338 Luxembourg (VAT ID: LU 19647148).

Meaning they operate all european shops from Luxembourg for tax reasons.

It is there on the About page in the page footer.

Where? :headscratch:

You're right, I just looked at the page, and the information there is not as detailed as the information from the German site. I guess the disclosure laws about company information must be different in both country.

DJ Doena

Yeah, german laws are very strict when it comes to comercial websites. The customer has a right to know who he's dealing with.
