The Academy Awards Marathon

Every year after the Oscar nominations are announced, I try to see as many of the nominees as I can before the ceremony. By necessity, this is a mixed media marathon, since many of the films are still in the theater. But I do the best I can. Netflix helps a lot.  Anyone want to get up to speed with me on the nominees this year?

You can do only nominees on DVD, or you could include theater films. A modification could be to include any film that has ever won an Oscar. If you are still having trouble choosing, you could expand to any film ever nominated for an Oscar.

But the theme is Oscar! And you'd better hurry because it's over on the 24th.  This ain't no month long marathon! :yellowcard:

 = Boring
:yucky: = A waste of time

I wouldn't have enough of the current Awards nominees, so I'll play more loosely, simply watching films that have some relation to the Academy Awards (won or nominated, in any category).

Ratatouille was awesome! It received 4 other nominations in addition to animated feature. I'm surprised it wasn't nominated for best picture.

I'm doing the same. I'll make an effort to include current year nominees, but will include other years so I have enough to choose from.

Hmmm that makes me wonder, has an animated feature ever been nominated for best picture?

m.cellophane

Yup. Beauty and the Beast was the first and only as far as I know.

I will try to add Ratatouille to the marathon, it's on it's way and if it arrives right after Chinese New Year I can watch it before the marathon ends.

Enchanted is open in theaters here on Wednesday, I am considering to see that, as I keep hearing good things.

I own Transformers, but as I just watched it fairly recently, I don't think I'll rewatch it already. Pirates of the Caribbean 3 is still unwatched (seen it in theaters last summer), so I may give that one a spin (maybe even today).

:friends: Well, I had it easy, as we had Chinese New Year, meaning I had 10 days off where I could easily watch a sufficient amount of films.

I just wondered now if you ever managed to finish? (As I type this the list in your post only goes up to 11...)

Unfortunately I didn't. My father in law passed away on the 16th. That turned my life upside down for a while. I did get to see the awards, thankfully. Things are getting back to normal again though.

Achim

Sorry to hear about your father in law.

Good to hear things are getting back to normal already.
