I read a lot - at least 2 or 3 books a week. My niece bought me a kindle thinking I would like it better than my hardcovers.

I haven't played around with it or tried to adjust things, so there might be ways to improve things, but so far I absolutely hate it.

The worse part is I've gotten a headache every time I spend more than an hour or so reading on kindle. This has never happened to me reading a book.

I also don't like the way it feels - books just feel better to me. I had my niece pick me up a cover - I'll give that a shot to see if it helps.

But, I really think that I will end up donating this kindle to someone because I am not impressed at all.

It's a color device...? The older models are black and white...

I can't say anything about prolongued reading yet, but I agree that an actual book just feels different, better. On the other hand, my iPad could hold an entire library (it basically does , I downloaded loads of free public domain books, like Dracula or Frankenstein) whereas books need slightly more space all together.
