I suppose you would say that if you think Star Wars is Science Fiction! Can't really compare 'em... Star Wars is Fantasy first.

That's true, but it was the true death knell of cerebral science-fiction on screen. That and the special effects laden CEotTK.

Oh, I love CEotTK. And all its effects.

In John Carpenter's Starman, The alien takes human form by replicating Jeff Bridges DNA from something the alien finds. What does he find, and where does he find it?

Dammit.  I only know part of the answer.  Foiled again.

Ok...stupid question...what is CEotTK?  I've wracked my brain and I can't figure it out.

I'm glad you did, but my point is that after those two films, the science-fiction film stopped being an intelligent form of storytelling and was replaced with the "Let's see how many explosions and goofy marketable action figure toy characters we can come up with", kind of film.

In 1979's Time after Time, H.G.Welles comes forward in time through the use of a time-travelling device he's invented. He comes forward in time to capture someone who has used his machine to escape capture from the police in Welles original time period. Who does he come forward to capture?

I know what you mean, but there is a distinction between Star Wars and CE. The latter wouldn't sell any toys, well, not properly anyway. It was proper sci-fi that happened to use tons of effects. I've always found it ironic how between them Spielberg and Lucas seemed to change the tide of cinema into the blockbuster seasons and yet for a very long time they were the only ones who could do it properly.

They should have both been drawn and quartered for ruining film making.  :voodoo:
