« on: January 21, 2018, 04:17:13 AM »
I've read several of the Nikki Heat books.  5 I think.  I have another one on my Kindle that I haven't read yet.  I liked them.

I watched Castle because of Nathan.  I had to see more of Malcom Reynolds. :)    I also watched a few other shows he had between Firefly and Castle that didn't last.  I had read about him getting a new show back in December I think it was.  I will absolutely watch that.  I watched Dr. Horrible's Sing Along Blog because of Nathan.  I watched Slither because of him - really I should have hate it since those alien worm things were sort of snake like, but I love that movie.  I watched it for Nathan.  I do try to follow actors/actress that I have liked in other stuff too.  I really liked Nathan on Firefly.  So, I will keep watching his stuff. :)  That was one thing that would bug me at times at the Castle board.  People there liked to ...guess kind of insult and belittle the Firefly fans and act like they weren't true fans of Castle since they had liked Nathan on Firefly first.  The Firefly fans are very loyal, and Nathan appreciates that.  Not many shows have fans that stay that loyal to a show this many years after it was cancelled.  Oh...I saw him on Buffy too.  Freaky character.

I hadn't heard about Absentia.  I just looked and it looks like I can watch it with Amazon Prime so I'll try to do that sometime.  Work has already been a bit hectic for me since I do some bookkeeping stuff too.  But I have most of that done now..but it will get crazy busy before much longer too.  But I added it to my watch list anyway so I won't forget.

I didn't know Stana had a new series.  Hmmm.

Oops..meant to do the spoiler tags for some of that and not the line through it.  Oops.  lol

I have through season 7 on DVD.  I only watched it once because once the steaming pile of crap that was season 8 started, I just couldn't watch the older episodes anymore.

I saw some of the stuff that other fans were saying back when it first came out that Stana wouldn't be back.  I saw a lot of people blame Nathan.  I don't.  None of us know that there was any kind of issue between them..it was just gossip that some threw around.  I never actually read or heard any of it other than some people on the Castle board making references to it.  There were a lot of people over there pissed that Nathan didn't give the network an ultimatum about not going back without Stana.  He said all along while Castle was on that he was thankful to be on a show that lasted longer than a year..or even just a few episodes.  He's been through being on other good shows that didn't last, so I think I can see what he wouldn't give an ultimatum like that.  I know the ratings were going down in season 8, but that was because of the shitty story the writers and new showrunners came up with.  The ratings dropped a ton from episode 2 to 3 -after they had Kate walk out on Rick.  I honestly don't know what the writers and those new showrunners were thinking.  It was like they were writing a book during the season - how to ruin a good show and undo everything in a few simple episodes.  It still ticks me off what they did to Rick and Kate.

I saw some of the last season of Rizzoli & Isles, but not all of it.  It stinks that it got cancelled.  Major Crimes is ending too.  I haven't seen all of the latest season of it because I didn't realize when it was on - they changed the day.  But I've read a few things that happened in the last few episodes and I'm glad I didn't see them.  I'm ticked off without watching them.  Now I'll NEVER watch them.  What the hell is the matter with writers screwing up stuff like this.  yes I know crap happens in real life, but tv shows are an escape from real life, so let the freaking characters be happy .  Argh.  Sorry.  lol

I haven't fully kept up with NCIS.  I was ticked when they decided to go back and kill off Ziva at the end of season...13 I think.  When DeNozo - not sure how to spell that..lol - left because the actor had a new show.  I've seen that and it is ok.  The one new guy they added in season 14..I was mostly ok with him.  I was ok with the woman who was added after Ziva left.  The woman they added last year...did not like her at all.  I have only watched a few minutes of a few episodes this year.  I've been watching Lethal Weapon on FOX at the same time.  It is in season 2.  I was skeptical at first last year but thought I'd try it..I like it.
I also really like The Orville.  The first season ended already, but it did get picked up for a second season, so that made me happy.  After I saw the first episode and loved it, I was worried FOX would screw it up like they did Firefly.

I have seen some of SWAT.  It is ok.  It isn't bad or anything.  Guess I just haven't gotten..hooked.

Oh I agree, the earlier seasons of Bones were good.

Maybe Lana Turner.  Veronica Lake.

Movie Reviews / Re: Star Wars: The Last Jedi
« on: December 28, 2017, 05:19:38 AM »
I saw it on Sunday morning (the 8:40 showing was only about half full, but I attribute that to the time slot).

I also really, really like it upon that first viewing. I like how they play with expectations and basically not a single predication I had made for myself came true. For me this ranks high up within the Star Wars movies, at least for now I'd say its number 3 behind Star Wars and Empire Strikes Back.

There is a section in the middle of the movie which feels like they are trying to give something to the fans of the prequel trilogy and I really did not enjoy much.

I liked this much better than Force Awakens, so at this point I am a little concerned about Episode IX, since J.J. is coming back. :hmmmm: But I can see how they let Rian Johnson outline, possibly direct a whole other trilogy.

Things I expected that did not happen (or vice versa):
(click to show/hide)
I also think it is one of the best Star Wars movies.  So much better than the prequels - and I liked those more than most I think..lol.

For your spoilers..

I really liked The Force Awakens
(click to show/hide)
too so at this point, I don't have concerns about J.J. coming back.  Though I do wonder how certain things can be dealt with given what Johnson did - or didn't do - in this one.  I've heard that Johnson was basically given free reign for this movie and told he could do whatever he wanted with the story..include what he wanted or leave out what he wanted.  Certain things may have had more..cohesion if he'd been given at least some sort of ...hmm..guidance or restriction or something.

Ok..I think I'm done for now. :)

Movie Reviews / Star Wars: The Last Jedi
« on: December 17, 2017, 05:49:43 AM »
I went to see Star Wars: The Last Jedi yesterday - Friday - afternoon.  At first I thought I was going to end up waiting until next week, but I got the chance to go and I'm glad I did.

The movie is really good.  Really good.  Several things were awesome.  I didn't think it was predictable at all.  I had convinced myself that one of two things were more than likely going to happen..if not both.  Neither one did.  No I'm not saying what I thought would happen.   I have seen some things posted online - after I saw the movie - where some people are disappointed for ...whatever reason.  I didn't feel that way.  I was really wanting to see it, but I still did't have my expectations super high if that makes sense.  All I knew about the movie going in was the little from the trailers I had seen.  I think that was good.  People really need to see without knowing what to expect.

I saw the normal version.  I do want to see it again in the theater.  Maybe I'll check out the 3D that time.  There were a lot of things that I think have the potential to look cool in 3D.

Mark Hamill and Carrie Fisher were wonderful in the movie.  Once the credits started, there was the tribute to Carrie, and yes, that did make me tear up a bit.  Her daughter does have a nice supporting part.  She doesn't steal any scenes or anything, but she was good too.

I know I am being very vague here.  I don't want to accidentally spoil anything for anyone.  The movie is awesome.  Go see it immediately.

It wasn't just screenwriters that changed...showrunners and Terri and Andrew, the original creators of the show were completely gone.  By all means, finish out season 7.  YEs there were a few issues here and there, and goodness knows I rambled on and on about some of them ( ;) )  but that season ended wonderfully.  That would have been a fitting final episode instead of the horrid mess we got in season 8.  Just stay away from season 8.  Far, far away.  In many ways, I feel like season 8 ruined and undid just about everything that was good about the show.  I haven't even been able to watch the earlier seasons anymore.

I didn't even watch all of the last episodes.  I saw most of them, but there was 1 or 2 I didn't watch. Maybe it was 3.  After the news came out that Stana wouldn't be back for another season but the show runners and writers had all this wonderful ideas going forward, I felt like the show was doomed.  For me, there would have only been a small, and I mean very small chance, that I would have kept watching in season 9 after that.  Things would have had to been set up in a way that it was clear Rick and Kate were still together and happy but Kate wasn't seen..working out of town..went back to law school...running for senate..whatever.  But they were still together and happy and everyone knew it.  Even have phone calls between them and texts and stuff - of course we would have only heard his side.  That would have still ...not been ideal, but that could have worked for me.  But anything else, Kate being dead or they split up or whatever and it would have been ruined.

So..anyway..once I heard about Stana not coming back, I didn't watch those last few new episodes.  They were on my DVR, but I didn't watch them.  I started to watch one of them, and it was starting with some sweet moment with them and it just made me mad that they - the writers and show runners - were ready to rip it all apart a few episodes after that.  They were going to ruin Rick and Kate's Always.  So...off it went.  With the last episode, I already had a feeling like they were going to end with some cliffhanger with her missing or shot or ...something.  Then the jerks in charge said they had another ending that they filmed just in case it didn't get renewed....and then it wasn't renewed.  So.  I was ...kind of releaved that it was cancelled since that meant they couldn't screw it up any more..but still ticked that it came to that.

The night of the final episode, at first I thought I would watch it since I knew the show was done at that point..then I wasn't going to.  I ended up mostly not watching it.  I flipped over for a few minutes here and there..and it irked me.  I did see stuff at the end..  I will put the rest in spoilers since Karsten still hasn't seen it.

So at first it was looking ok.  They caught the big bad..at least I think the one guy was the big bad..but why the hell he was the big bad I still don't get.  Anyway.  Things look good..even at the station.  I actually thought at first that was part of the alternate ending they did just in case.  Then they got home and it went straight to shit.  I still don't know who the hell that jerk was that shot them - I don't even care. It was just how the hell did he get in there ..and after all that, they have Rick and Kate laying in pools of blood on the freaking floor???  Then that shot of the loft empty with the voice over.  I was so ticked.  I am absolutely convinced that was the ending they originally planned, after it showed the loft empty.  Leaving a cliffhanger on if they were alive or dead or hurt how bad.  Then we got the little, slapped together alternate ending.  Yes that was good because it showed them still together and happy and with kids in the future.  But it was so freaking short.  It wasn't worth it and it damn sure didn't make up for the steaming pile of shit they turned a wonderful show into.

It was horrible what was done to the show.
Did you hear about the "great" idea the idiots in charge had for a season 9?
They said everyone, including Rick, would think Kate was dead but she'd really be on a secret mission in Europe.  Reading the kind of bullshit they planned to dump on the loyal fans made me glad the show was cancelled.

I never watched another episode.  I did from time to time read a few things here and there about it.  I didn't feel like I missed anything.

I haven't watched David's new show.  I just haven't wanted to I guess.  Just like I haven't really gotten into the new show the one guy from Criminal Minds has this year.  I've watched it some, but...meh.  I liked him more on Criminal Minds.  lol

I actually did come close to posting in the Castle thread again, but then I stopped myself since it had been so long since someone posted.  I was so disappointed with the last season of Castle.  So disappointed.  I never rewatched any of the episodes - I don't have it on DVD either -  and I haven't even watched  my DVDs of the earlier seasons again either.

I never went back to Bones.

I thought about trying Lucifer, but I haven't yet.  I did think it looked interesting when it started.  I guess I was mostly wary of FOX getting me hooked on something a little different again and then cancelling it before it really had a chance.  Though I have gotten hooked on a few other shows on FOX since then.  And they are still going so far, so maybe someone there has a brain now.   ;)  I may try to watch Lucifer sometime.

I mostly skimmed what you said about the movies since I still want to see them.
I did see Batman vs Superman and had issues with some things.  It wasn't horrible, but it wasn't as good as it could have been - or should have been for that matter.  I did see Wonder Woman and loved it - well worth checking out if you haven't seen it yet.  Definitely the best of the DC movies.  Even with how good I think Wonder Woman is, I still have concerns about Justice League, mainly because of the ...issues I had with Man of Steel and Batman vs Superman.  I think most of my issues came from the way Zack Snyder chose to handle things.  His vision I guess.  And even though Whedon came in to do some stuff with Justice League, I think it would still have a lot of Snyder's vision or input or whatever.  So.  I have concerns.  But I will see it.  I should do what you did and just go see a few in one day - I have done that before.  I did think about doing that about a week ago, but it didn't happen.

I haven't kept up with Supergirl after the show changed networks.  I keep forgetting when it is on.  I liked the first season.

Hello Marie! :) great to have you back. Long time, no talk =)
Hope everything is good with you. Lets hope to seeya around again soon! ;)

Thank you.  :)  I know it has been.  I did think about you when Castle was in the death spiral - did intend to post some around then too but something kept coming up.

Everything is good.  Just been a little busy with work at times.  There is end of year stuff to get ready for.

Hello Marie! We missed you too.

It may be slightly less busy around here than it used to be, but as you can see, some people still hang around (I read more than I post). The usual suspects still post reviews more than regularly.

I will try to post some stuff again too.  It has been a little while since I saw a new movie, though there are some out now I want to see.  Just haven't gone on the few days when I haven't had work stuff to do.

I haven't written anything for the blogs I started around the time Epinions ended.  I got away from that a few years ago - probably the long hours at work - and I haven't gone back to it.  I do miss that too.  I should try to start that again.

Good to see you again too. :)

Well I went and did it again...stayed away way longer than I intended.  Sorry about that.  But I found my way back again.

The last few years have been busy and kind of crazy at times.  There were some issues at work with the new manager that was ..well not a manager and no one liked.  She would just up and leave when the office was full of clients and never come back.  Then one time she claimed she came in on her day off and had to do everyone else's work.  It wasn't pretty.  Five people quit because of her, which made last tax season crazy busy.  10 hour days most of tax season, but it was a way better season since the horrible manager was gone.  It is just too bad she drove off a few good preparers.  I will probably have to work a lot of hours again this season too.  I also had more sort of complicated returns to deal with last tax season.  I passed the exams with the IRS last year - I passed the final one a year ago today I think - so I'm an Enrolled Agent now.  I spent most of my time last year starting in June studying for those exams.  I have done a lot of classes again this year.  I may still try to finish a few online classes by the end of the year.  Or I may wait and do them at the beginning of January.

My mom ended up in the hospital with pneumonia right after I posted here last..or at about the same time.  Her doctor wanted her to get stronger meds since it wasn't clearing up.  The hospital here has issues, so I wasn't happy about that.  She did seem to get better, but she only had nurse practitioners taking care of her.  The one was a dingbat and didn't know what she was doing - giving her stuff that made the asthma worse and not watching her blood pressure.  Well the ding bat was the one that released her after a week with her blood pressure too high.  The next morning she was back in the hospital because she'd had a mini stroke.  There were other issues with her care from that, but she is ok.  She never lost the ability to talk, she just had trouble with her right side for a while.  That leg still is weaker, but she is ok.  So all that, along with tax season that year, had me a bit stressed.

My step dad had to get a new pacemaker because the battery was done last summer.  Well he had complications again too - there were complications when it first went in too.  It got done again last October because of infection.  The doc said it was fine after that.  Then this June when he had another check up, was told it is infected and has to come out.  Hospital here in town can't do that procedure - not that he was going back to that doc again after everything.  He went to hospital in Columbus and has a better heart doc there now.  The surgery went fine, but it did take a while for the infection to clear up because it was so bad and the doc couldn't get it all out in surgery.  So far he doesn't have a new one yet.  Doc wants everything to be fully healed for a while first.  Also, the prior doc had the pacemaker set too high, so it was shocking him all the time.  He had another checkup about a month ago and everything was good.  He goes back again in the spring.

I am still behind on stuff from my DVR, though I have caught up with some stuff.  I have new things I've started watching too that have been added.  I'll probably always be behind on it.  :)  I still go to movies, though I don't always see everything I want in the theaters.  There are a few playing now I want to see, and more coming.    I still get movies and watch them, though it has been a few weeks at least since I last watched something.

My computer had been having some fits and just not running too well for a year or so.  Just running everything so slow, so when I tried to go online, it creeped, and I got annoyed and gave up without doing what I wanted to do, like come here.  I got a new computer recently that is so much better.

Hopefully I will be able to stop here more often again.  I have missed it here.   :D

Thank you. :)

Well I survived my first day of tax season.  Only 105 more to go - deadline is the 18th this year because of a holiday that DC observes on the 15th.  And yes I know the count...I have an app on my phone.

WTF works really good for the nonsense we've gotten so far this season.  Not just nonsense, but crap.

I think I'm done again...for now anyway. :)
