The Night Flier, a review by addicted2dvdTitle: The Night Flier Year: 1997 Director: Mark Pavia Rating: R Length: 96 Min. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.85:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital 5.1 Subtitles: English, French, Spanish Stars: Miguel Ferrer as Richard Dees Julie Entwisle as Katherine Blair Dan Monahan as Merton Morrison Michael H. Moss as Dwight Renfield John Bennes as Ezra Hannon Plot:Extras: Scene Access Trailers Production Notes My Thoughts: Stephen King's take on a vampire story. Being a vampire movie alone gives it a good chance I will enjoy it... and I definitely did. But it is definitely not the best vampire movie I ever seen. Like It did seem a bit weird... the idea of a vampire flying around in an airplane everywhere he goes. There was a couple things did I liked about this movie though... they way they made Dwight Renfield (the vampire) look... as well as the effect the vampire's blood had when he effected the Richard Dees with it. I really liked the use of Black and White in that scene. It really enhanced the spookiness of the scene. There is a couple small extras on this release... I would have liked to seen something more substantial though. This movie did have some decent bloody effects a well. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.78:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1 Subtitles: Stars: Episode 1 - Another Tour Donnie Wahlberg Michael Hyatt John Leguizamo Peter Appel Plot: From SPIKE TV comes the acclaimed original series, "The Kill Point." Emmy® Award-winning actor John Lequizamo is "Mr. Wolf," an Iraq war veteran who leads his ex-platoon on a daring bank heist. But when the robbery goes tragically wrong, the onetime soldier has no choice but to take hostages. Going head-to-head with Mr. Wolf is "Horst Cali" (Donnie Wahlberg), a no-nonsense hostage negotiator who refuses to back down. What follows is a thrilling match of wits and guts between two men who both have something to prove--and everything to lose. Extras: Scene Access Interviews Closed Captioned My Thoughts: 8 part, 6 hour made for TV mini-series produced for Spike TV about a botched bank robbery and the ensuing hostage situation. I started this with some trepidation as I wondered how a simple bank heist could sustain 6 hours and while they could have shaved an hour off all in all I thought it was very good. John Leguizamo was excellent, one of his best performances ever frankly. Donnie Wahlberg was top notch and in his element as well. Tobin Bell, playing a ruthless business man trying to get his hostage daughter out was solid too in the few episodes he appeared. It was refreshing to see him shed his Jigsaw moniker to take on a more meaningful role. The biggest flaw I found was the inclusion of a rooftop sniper who babbled prophetic nonsense throughout the series which made no sense as in the end his character had no significant impact on the plot or it's conclusion. Interesting twist near the end, and a good ending too even if it was a bit predictable. Some 90 minute movies take me several days to finish watching based on time available and my level of interest. I knocked off this six hour mini-series in one day. That should tell you something about it. My Thoughts: Chris Kattan is sick of being passed on lead roles, he decides to take the offer of being the lead in a Bollywood production. This three episodes series was fun to watch. A good balance between culture clash and rom-com. Rating: (From Tom's Random Reviews on May 21st, 2011) |
