Plot:
Before spinning cinematic gold from sharks, dinosaurs and homesick aliens, a young Steven Spielberg directed this high-velocity thriller about an innocent motorist terrorized by an evil truck. Spielberg's first full-length movie, Duel helped jumpstart the director's big-screen career, with a gripping, action-packed story hailed by critics as a film that "...belongs on the classics shelf reserved for top suspensers"(Daily Variety). Dennis Weaver stars as the traveling salesman waging a desperate battle for survival after he is mysteriously singled out for destruction. Praised for its deft use of relentlessly mounting psychological tension, Duel features one of the most uniquely terrifying "characters" in movie history: a massive, roaring 40-ton truck with more sheer menace than most flesh-and-blood villains. But Steven Spielberg was, literally, just getting started. A few years later, the action of Spielberg's blockbuster hit Jaws would echo Duel's tale of a lone hero in a heart-stopping fight to the finish against a monstrous, inhuman foe.

My Thoughts:
This is another one I bought blind this past month that I never got the chance to watch. It was recommended to me by more then one person. I enjoyed the movie... it is filled with tension. Don't really know what to say with this one since it is basically one long car chase so I will be keeping this one short. I do have to admit the ending was pretty much predictable. But I would recommend checking this one out.

The Freshman, a review by Antares

The Freshman (1925) 4/5 - I'm ashamed to admit it, but I purchased all three volumes of the Harold Lloyd Comedy Collection, and up until today, had only watched his comedy shorts from those sets. Well, TCM was doing a birthday tribute to Lloyd who was born on this day back in 1893. I started to watch Lloyd's most successful feature The Freshman, without any thought of finishing it, but by the mid-point of the film, I was hooked. I now can understand Lloyd's popularity during the high times of silent slapstick. He was an amalgamation of the three other popular silent clowns of the time, Charlie Chaplin, Buster Keaton and Harry Langdon. From Langdon, you get the childlike naivete, from Chaplin, the pathos and from Keaton, the incredible physical agility. But whereas each of those performers plied their trade using those singular attributes predominantly in their work, Lloyd was able to move from mood to mood keeping this film fresh and rolling along. I'm now looking forward to finally putting those shiny discs into my DVD player and checking out his other feature films.

Children of the Night
When Eileen Townsend gets transferred to Europe, she takes her sons (teen-age Chris and 10-year-old Max) to stay with her uncle, Gustav Helsing - descendant of the famous vampire hunter

My Thoughts:
This is a Saturday morning series geared towards kids that originally aired in (I believe) 1990 for just the one season. I never seen this show when it originally aired. But when I saw the DVDs for sale cheap I thought it would be a good show Britt and I could watch together. And Britt does enjoy this one. Though she does say it has one of the most annoying opening themes ever!  It is a cute show... I am glad I added it to my collection. One of the characters in this series is played by a very young Mia Kirshner.
