Star Trek: Generations, a review by DJ DoenaStar Trek: Generations Patrick Stewart ... Captain Jean-Luc Picard Jonathan Frakes ... Commander William T. Riker Brent Spiner ... Lt. Commander Data LeVar Burton ... Lt. Commander Geordi La Forge Michael Dorn ... Lt. / Lt. Commander Worf Gates McFadden ... Commander / Dr. Beverly Crusher Marina Sirtis ... Commander Deanna Troi Malcolm McDowell ... Dr. Tolian Soran James Doohan ... Capt. Montgomery "Scotty" Scott Walter Koenig ... Commander Pavel Chekov William Shatner ... Captain James T. Kirk, retired Alan Ruck ... Capt. John Harriman Jacqueline Kim ... Ensign Demora Sulu 2293. Retired Captain Kirk is invited to the ship's christening of the Enterprise-B. But then the ships gets an emergency call from two refugee vessels and the Enterprise comes to aid. But on that mission Kirk dies. 2371. The Enterprise-D under the command of Captain Jean-Luc Picard gets an emergency from the Armagosa observatory. They find only a few survivors but they can't conclude their investigation because the Armagosa sun collapses. And the Enterprise has to prevent that such thing happens again. My opinion: I don't know. Personally I don't think it is a good idea to bring these two crews together (i.e. it was only Kirk) with the help of a time distortion element. It felt constructed. And Captain Harriman's incompetence was just a vessel for letting Kirk being the hero for one last time. I also didn't like what was going on aboard the new Enterprise. Picard's reaction to the death of his nephew - it wasn't just like him, somehow it didn't felt right. Additionally I hate Data's emotion chip. The scenes with him were ridiculous and in the movies to come we becomes more and more a figure of fun. The movie went up from the moment when Picard and Kirk met in the Nexus. But it also set another standard for a TNG movie. Picard fights every enemy with his own bare hands in the great finale and he kills them all - directly or indirectly. But when these twins, who have inherited their deceased mother's supernatural powers, decide to ressurect their father's corpse, the town will awaken to a series of bizarre murders. As the local sheriff tries to uncover the mystery behind the strange killings, the children begin to lose control of their powers and stop at nothing to avenge their father's death. My Impression Nothing really special here... Feels almost like a tv movie since we see no blood when somebody is shot or stab (weird since the film is rated R). The story is really badly developed and not really interesting. A really poor Marilyn Burns performance as usual (except for TCM she had never impress me), an old teen idol (Fabian) in the principal role, two annoying kids who takes 80% of the screen time (but the little girl is cute) and the less impressive 3 bikers club ever seen on screen. The dvd quality is ordinary; full of tape defect (remaster my ass) and fullscreen... doesn't worth the 2$ I've paid for it. Establishes the Fraser/Vecchio dynamics quickly, and they hit it off well in terms of chemistry. The story is good too. Free Willie Good first actual episode. A few nice jokes (especially those about the color of Canadian money) and a good story. Diefenbaker's Day Off Great episode, I loved it. Nice little heartwarming story. Still wonder why they had the dog's name in the title when he had so little to do though. Manhunt Leslie Nielsen's in it! What more could you ask for? Granted it's in a more serious role, but he still manages to get a some laughs, and I always like it when they take funny actors and place them in serious roles. They Eat Horses, Don't They? Another solid episode if you ask me. Nice, if a little gross, story. And Vecchio's sister is back! Pizzas and Promies What a treat! Vecchio's sister is back for a second episode in a row! Unfortunately, I found this episode to be really slow to pick up. Once they get to the car dealership, the story picks up and gets better, but the beginning of the episode is rather dull. I give this a 4 because of Ramona Milano, else it'd be a 3. (From "Due South" marathon on September 29th, 2009) |
