Plot:
In the small southern town of Azalea Springs, the country club still sets the rules. Here, being a member of "The League" is a must and only hair dressers and interior designers are supposed to be gay. A frenzy breaks out when a tipsy comment starts a rumor that the local drinking water turns you gay. This unexpected spark adds fuel to already smoldering fires as the religious and socially righteous begins to join forces. The combination becomes the catalyst for residents who must now face or deny their own realities in this outrageous comedy with a queer little twist.

Extras:

My Thoughts:
An entertaining TV movie. Almost the only people portrayed as rational are the gay characters
The main character also had a lesbian movie marathon of her own there. A lot of the movies she rented will be part of this marathon

[Earth vs.] The Spider, a review by GSyren

TitleThe Spider (5-060009-232708)
DirectorBert I. Gordon
ActorsGene Persson, Ed Kemmer, Gene Roth, Hal Torey, June Kenney
Produced1958 in United States
Runtime72 minutes
AudioEnglish Dolby Digital Mono
SubtitlesDutch, German
Overview
My thoughtsBert I. Gordon (aka Mr B.I.G.) isn't the most brilliant filmmaker in the world, but for a B-movie fan his films were almost always a lot of fun.

There are lots of things wrong with [Earth vs.] The Spider. I guess you'll have to disregard the fact that animals cannot grow that much bigger and still keep the same proportions. It's physically impossible, but it kind of goes with the territory of big bug movies.

The spider seems to be a tarantula, but tarantulas don't spin a web. The web looks like a cargo net, and not anything like a spider's net. The spider easily fits inside the school auditorium, but when we see it outside it's as big as a house. The spider is killed by an electric arc that is at least 30 foot, but the electric lines into the cave lie next to each other without any spark-over, and people hold the electrodes with just a rubber glove. The actors playing teenagers are way too old for their parts. One of them is in his mid thirties!

Despite all this there is something about this film that appeals to me. I can't quite say what it is. The story might be hookey, but at least it keeps the action going. The effects are inventive, if not always totally successful. But they're still more fun than a lot of the CGI crap we see today.

Pete's Pilots, a review by addicted2dvd

Beastmaster
In an age when nature and magic ruled the world, an extraordinary legend was born... The BeastMaster!

At long last, the entire first season of the spectacular BeastMaster series comes to home video in an epic 22 episode season 1 DVD collection. Based on the works of legendary science fiction author Andre Norton, this is the saga of Dar, a legendary warrior born of the beasts and gifted with the ability to communicate with animals! Joined by the scholar Tao and a legion of animal warriors, Dar must journey through a world before time, on an epic odyssey to bring peace and justice to a land faced with incredible evil.

The Legend Continues
Dar begins his quest to rescue his love, Kyra, after the Terron warriors abduct her.

My Thoughts:
I originally seen this series when I caught a few odd episodes on syndicated TV. Unfortunately because it was a syndicated series you never really knew from one week to the next if it will be on the following week.  I was thrilled when I found the DVD releases. I finally was able to see the entire series and in order. While it is an entertaining series I wouldn't call it a favorite. It never gained the popularity of Hercules or Xena... but was worth watching. There is one familiar face in this series... a young Emilie de Raven (Roswell, Lost) had a recurring role in the first 2 seasons (I believe) of this show.
