Toys are not for Children, a review by Jimmy

Title : Toys are not for Children (1973)

Overview
Miserable with her marriage to a toy-store clerk and obsessed with memories of her long-absent father, child-like Jamie learns that toys are not for children when she turns her life around--by becoming a hooker! Playing "daddy's little girl" with dirty old men, she finds true happiness until a friend arranges a special "date" between Jamie and her whore-hungry dad that, to put it mildly, does not go well. Two toy-friendly sickies definitely not for the kiddies!

My Impression
A good thing with Something Weird Video is the fact that they have many hidden jewels. This movie is a good exemple of this, usually the second movie in a double feature is weaker than the principal but TANFC is much better and original than The Toy Box (itself a good movie, but nothing special). The story is really well construct and the acting is good (I can't understand why Marcia Forbes haven't made anything else), it's easy to see that the director had take this project seriously. If you don't like Hollywood ending movie you won't get one here, this ending is one of the more depressing that I've seen. By the way I really like the song theme of this film (Lonely Am I by T. L. Davis). The only downside is that this movie isn't restore at all : the sound is ok but the picture have many defects.

Deadline at Dawn, a review by Antares

Deadline at Dawn (1946) 68/100 - Agatha Christie meets Raymond Chandler. For the first 45 minutes or so of this film, I watched in stunned silence as I couldn't believe what was going on in the screenplay. this has to be one of the strangest stories I've ever seen put on celluloid. Unreal coincidences and contrivances come at you like a punch drunk prizefighter's last gasps of energy. But then, after the introduction of the murder victim's brother, the film starts to take off. His dialog has some of the best lines I've ever heard in a noir. Little one line gems like... If she cut off her head, she'd be very pretty., People with wax heads should keep out of the sun., and probably the best line in the whole film... She was no lullaby but she had the brains like a man. It's pearls like these that keep this movie fun and help you to get by the ridiculous premise of the story. It also helps that Susan Hayward and Paul Lukas are excellent in their roles. The only weak spot in the cast is Bill Williams as the naive sailor who starts the ball rolling when he blacks out in the murder victim's apartment. He lays on the Golly gee, Oh shucks stuff pretty thick. A mild recommendation from me.

Teal = Masterpiece
Dark Green = Classic or someday will be
Lime Green = A good, entertaining film
Orange = Average
Red = Cinemuck
Brown = The color of crap, which this film is

Sliders Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

8. THE KING IS BACK
It looks like "The King Is Back" when Rembrandt is mistaken for a long-deceased rock legend, but an old enemy would like to see the Crying Man disappear again--permanently.

My Thoughts:
This one... while a decent episode... is not one I enjoy as much as most. Basically a bit too much music for my taste.

My Rating:

9. LUCK OF THE DRAW
Wade finds that she has money to burn when she wins the lottery in a seemingly utopian world, but she soon discovers that her silver cloud has a very dark lining.

My Thoughts:
This one is a good episode. I liked the storyline... even if it has been told before.  As Professor Arturo said in the episode... if something seems to good to be true... then it probably is.

My Rating:

SEASON 2:

1. INTO THE MYSTIC
With Quinn seriously injured from a gunshot wound, the Sliders search for a doctor on what appears to be the strangest Earth they've yet seen. The only one they can find is a witch doctor, who tells them about the all powerful sorcerer who is said to have the knowledge about sliding. The sliders set out upon a journey a la "The Wizard of Oz" to his castle beyond the Golden Gargoyle Gate bridge to find the sorcerer in the hopes of finding their way home.

My Thoughts:
The first episode of the second season isa good.. if not a bit weird episode. And the ending of this episode...you know it had to happen sooner or later.

My Rating:

11. LOVE GODS
In a world where germ warfare has exterminated most of the male population, Quinn, Rembrandt and Arturo discover that they've been pegged as runaway "breeders," and every nation of the world wants to capture them.

My Thoughts:
This one is not a bad episode... but not a favorite either. It pretty much feels like no more then a filler episode.
