Haeckel's Tale, a review by addicted2dvdHaeckel's Tale In a time when the laws of science battled the secrets of magic, medical student Ernst Haeckel (Derek Cecil) believes the power of life, death and resurrection lay in his arrogant hands. But on a journey to visit his gravely ill father, he finds shelter in the home of an older man and his seductive young wife (Leela Savasta) who cannot be fulfilled by mortal hungers. Somewhere in the darkness of a nearby necropolis, a defiant necromancer (Jon Polito of BARTON FINK, MILLER'S CROSSING) will now summon them all to an orgy of the undead and unleash the ultimate depravity for those who do not heed the warning of HAECKEL'S TALE. Directed by John McNaughton in association with horror legend George A. Romero, this startling mix of erotic desire and gut-ripping horror is adapted by series creator/executive producer Mick Garris from the short story by Clive Barker. My Thoughts: This is another episode I like a lot. Is a fun... yet interesting (if not somewhat sick) story. The effects and make-up are well done. And this one does have it's share of gore in it. As with all the season 1 episodes this release has good quality and a lot of extras to enjoy. My Thoughts: I enjoyed this one. Sure... like most Rom-Coms it is a predictable film. My thoughts on that is that it is not about the outcome... it is about the journey. This film has the added bonus that I am already a fan of the two main characters. Recommended. I am now officially in love with Kyra Sedgwick (I think she is Kevin Bacons wife?). What a great performance she gives, absolutely perfect for the role as the new unpopular deputy chief from the South, and in a braless vest Firstly the writing is really good, great flow, hidden depths, surprises and character depth. The support cast appears strong with great dynamics, JK Simmons as father figure is perfect, and the 'office politics' will be good to run alongside each investigation. I never guessed the ending, did anyone else? Great start and full of potential, this is at top of 'to view' pile now. I would liken it to a good mix of Prime Suspect and Law & Order (From My PILOT Marathon on May 27th, 2008) |
