S1m0ne, a review by RichS1m0ne Intriguing concept exposing the fickleness of Hollywood and stardom, sharply written with the right dose of satire. It is clever and fairly original, but sadly after a bright start it becomes monotonous as it drags for 2 hours. It is too one-paced and never bites, staying in 2nd gear for the last 90 minutes. Pacino is not at his best in an unsuitable role, and the support seem a little resigned to playing second fiddle. This is a light-hearted distraction, of course far-fetched and fantastical, and will not insult your intelligence **Catherine Keener mini-marathon (From Riches Random Reviews on August 30th, 2009) The Comedy of Terrors, a review by Danae CassandraThe Comedy of Terrors Year of Release: 1963 Directed By: Jacques Tourneur Starring: Vincent Price, Peter Lorre, Boris Karloff, Joyce Jameson, Basil Rathbone, Rhubarb Genre: Horror, Comedy Overview: Four Masters of the Macabre star in this sinister and screamingly funny scare-fest! Waldo Trumbull (Vincent Price) is running his father-in-law's (Boris Karloff) funeral home business...straight into the ground! Hounded by his landlord (Basil Rathbone), Trumbull and his assistant (Peter Lorre) devise a way to make death pay: by increasing their customer base through murder and burying the secrets to their success...body by body! My Thoughts: This was a lot of fun. Sure, it's silly, and there's some pretty broad slapstick here, but the script is witty and you've got such stars as Price, Lorre, Karloff and Rathbone. They really work well together, especially Price and Lorre playing off each other. Don't take it seriously, and just sit back and laugh. My only criticism is that I wish they'd let up a bit on the annoying opera singing gag. Bechdel Test: Fail Overall: 3/5 2015 Horror Movie Count: 3 (From Horror/Halloween Marathon 2015 on October 5th, 2015) Pete's Pilots, a review by addicted2dvdFull House Take three little girls, their recently widowed father, and two of dad's best buddies, put them in the same household, and stand back for a Full House of laughs, love and warmth. Enjoy all 22 Season One episodes (plus wonderful extras!) of the smash-hit series that ran from 1987 to 1995. Bob Saget plays Danny Tanner, the girls' doting dad. John Stamos is their rock-'n'-rollin' Uncle Jesse. Dave Coulier is Joey, a wannabe comic whose best audience is right at home. And the three Tanner youngsters are played by Candice Cameron, Jodie Sweetin and Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen, who share the role of nine-month-old scene stealer Michelle. Their house is your house! Our Very First Show Joey and Jesse's very first day as dads includes that harrowing rite of passage: changing a diaper. My Thoughts: While not what I would call a favorite, this series is entertaining. A fun show with a few laughs. The show has a likable cast and is one of those type of shows where most all problems is solved in the one half hour show. It was kind of weird seeing this first episode again... and seeing how long Jesse's hair was at the time. And I must say it was hilarious to see Jesse and Joey trying to change a diaper. At this point I still only have the first season of the series... on of these days I will have to continue collecting this series. As I said... not a favorite but fun.... and I am sure I could get these sets fairly cheap. My Rating: (From Pete's Pilots on January 26th, 2010) |
