The Quiet Earth, a review by JimmyMOVIE / DVD INFO: Title: The Quiet Earth (1985) Genre: Last man on earth movie Director: Geoff Murphy (Freejack) Rating: R Length: 1h31 Video: Widescreen Audio: English Subtitles: Close Caption Stars: Bruno Lawrence (Smash Palace) Alison Routledge (Rain) Pete Smith (Once Were Warriors) Anzac Wallace (UTU) Norman Fletcher (Goodbye Pork Pie) Tom Hyde Plot: At exactly 6:12 am, government research scientist Zac Hobson (a powerhouse performance by Bruno Lawrence of SMASH PALACE and UTU) awakens to discover that he may be the last man on earth: homes, highways and entire cities are deserted. Empty planes have fallen from the sky. Every living thing has disappeared. But for Hobson, the ultimate shock is still to come months later when he finds that he is not alone. With the addition of a beautiful young woman (Alison Routledge) and a Maori trucker (Pete Smith), the apocalypse suddenly becomes very personal. Video: Anamorphic Widescreen 1.66:1 Audio: English: Dolby Digital: 5.1, French: Dolby Digital: 5.1, English: DTS: 5.1, Commentary: Dolby Digital: 2-Channel Stereo Subtitles: English Stars: David Spade John Goodman (1952) Eartha Kitt Patrick Warburton Wendie Malick Eli Russell Linnetz Plot:Extras: Scene Access Audio Commentary Feature Trailers Deleted Scenes Featurettes Production Notes Interactive Games Music Videos DVD-ROM Content Closed Captioned THX My Thoughts: It was just as fun as I remembered it. All I can say, really, is that it was alot better than the series. Although, John Goodman being Pacha was odd for me, cuz every time I hear Pacha, I hear Dan Connor. Still a cool story about an arrogent emporor with a heart.......somewhere. My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Doing the ABC's Movie Style!! on July 12th, 2010) Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom
The Golden Girls Season 1.01 Pilot (aka "The Engagement") Writer: Susan Harris (Writer) Director: Jay Sandrich Cast: Beatrice Arthur (Dorothy), Betty White (Rose), Rue McClanahan (Blanche), Estelle Getty (Sophia), Charles Levin (Coco), Frank Aletter (Harry), F. William Parker (The Minister), Meshach Taylor (The Cop) I never really followed the Golden Girls, but I always watched it, when I caught it on TV. Recently I encounter a lot of articles, that The Golden Girls is one of the shows, which really holds up after 30+ years. And as I always like Betty White and remembered enjoying her on the series, and also Estelle Getty, I thought I would finally get me the series. The first episode was good and had some really funny lines. I especially liked Rose's naivity. (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on March 9th, 2022) |
