My Thoughts:
Even though I caught a scene or two here and there when it was on cable... this is the first time I ever seen this movie from beginning to end. On the plus side... this one has Drew Barrymore and Sara Gilbert... both of who's work I have enjoyed when seeing it. Not to mention Cheryl Ladd for those of us that are Charlie's Angels fans. On the negative side... I have read a lot of reviews for this film... most ranging from decent to bad. So I went in hopeful but not overly so. I didn't notice till I put it in that this triple feature disc contained the pan and scan versions of the films. Another negative going in. After watching the film... I must say I enjoyed it more then I was expecting. Sure... I don't like the idea of a grown man going after his teen daughter's friend, but over-all I found the film easily kept my interest. And I thought the entire cast did a fine job. I would recommend this film. Though I would not recommend this triple feature disc. First of all as I said it is pan and scan... plus the video quality could have been better.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

WHAT I THINK OF IT
Audio:
"The doctors say my heart sounds like a cement mixer."

Being a mostly dialog driven movie, with not a lot of action, there's really not much to say about the audio track. The inclusion of DTS is somewhat puzzling, as I couldn't hear much difference, other than maybe the DTS being recorded louder. The dialog is clear throughout the movie. The music must've done its job wonderfully as I never really noticed it. Nothing here to impress your friends on your brand new receiver, but it does its job for this movie.

Video:
"Love is the answer, isn't it? But, sex raises a lot of very interesting questions..."

Again, nothing earth shattering here. I didn't notice anything in the visuals that was distracting, but since I'm not watching the movie looking for faults, I will not see them. I noticed some grain in the black and white parts of the movie, but it was probably intentional.

Movie:
"I always thought ugly was an ugly word."

I really enjoyed this movie. Kinsey is an interesting, if a little blunt at times, look at a man that dared defy the "morality" of his time. He dared put into writing the most intimate of details on what people will do behind curtains. The movie can be funny at times, especially in the beginning. But it then gets tragic as you witness all the difficulties brought forth by one man's obsession with a completely natural, yet almost completely demonized act. What he sees as a simple study of human behaviour, most people see as a devious obsession, and will be shocked in public. But as Kinsey's study shows, what they will do when all alone in the privacy of their homes ...

You know, after watching this film, with a story that takes places in the 1940-1950 era, it is amazing how little has changed. The society as a whole is still very rigid towards sex (take the Janet Jackson incident), yet, sex is plastered all over the place. Clothes or just about any type of ads, music videos, cinema, the internet. The amount of hypocrisy these days regarding sex is really mind boggling.

Guess some things will never change.. No matter how many Alfred Kinsey the world gets.

Smallville Marathon #2, a review by DJ Doena

Disc 2

Nocturne
Synopsis: Lana has a secret admirer who sends her poems but Clark is overprotective and assumes he is a stalker. Clark and Ross finally find the young man who is held captive in the basement of the house of by his parents. But when they release him, he transforms and not even Clark is able to stop him.

My Opinion: Lana's grudge with Clark didn't even last one episode. ;) I find it always interesting how people manage to hold helicopters on the ground just because they are strong enough - yet they aren't anchored to the ground in any way. It's one of the riddles about superpowers I probably never solve. ;D I liked it, though and it was nice to see Richard Moll (Bull in Night Court) again although it was only a small role.

Redux
Synopsis: Two students die of old age in short succession and that can't be a coincedence. Someone seems to suck the life out of them to stay young. But the Kent family has yet another problem: They need some additional money and there's a person who could help: Martha's father. But Jonathan and he have a long, bad history that Clark tries to mend.

My Opinion: A standard FotW episode where the bad gal died a bit too fast in my opinion. But I liked to see that even the Kents can't solve all their family issues, it makes them more normal.

Lineage
Synopsis: A woman comes to town who claims to be Clark's real mother. She also claims that he is a half-brother of Lex's. Meanwhile Lana tries to find out whether a certain man is her biological father. It is also revealed, how the Kents managed to get adoption papers for Clark.

My Opinion: A "family" episode that I liked a lot. It is interesting to see how the "average television family" has changed over the decades, from the "perfect" housewife, the husband and the two children to what we've seen in recent years (the families in ER, Buffy the Vampire Slayer, 24, ... and Smallville). I never noticed before that Chloe's mother has been mentioned that early in the show, although her fate hasn't been revealed yet.

Ryan
Synopsis: Ryan calls from the Summerholt Institute where he is held as research object. Clark rescues him but that nearly lands him in prision for kidnapping. Ryan's ability to read minds is based on a brain tumor that will kill him. Clark and Lex try to prevent that.

My Opinion: A very emotional episode and a very sad one. I find it interesting how they made the comic Warrior Angel a forebode of things to come. Funny thing to say about a fantasy series but it makes it more realistic that Clark isn't able to save everyone, especially when there's nothing that he can do personally.
