The Time of Their Lives, a review by Danae CassandraFilm #3 of Scavenger Hunt #22 Task #20: Watch the 17th film in order of release from a long running film franchise The Time of Their Lives Year of Release: 1946 Directed By: Charles Barton Starring: Bud Abbott, Lou Costello, Marjorie Reynolds, Binnie Barns, John Shelton, Gale Sondergaard Genre: Comedy Overview: Mistaken as a traitor, Lou's ghost is trapped in Danbury Mansion until his innocence is proven. My Thoughts: This is the 17th film in Abbott and Costello's Universal series, and it was a lot of fun. It was really different from their other films I've seen, as they didn't play off each other or insert any of their routines, but instead all the comedy arises from the story. And the story is really fun, and really funny, and very well-written. Both Bud and Lou do a great job with their roles, and you don't miss the routines because you're too busy laughing. Highly recommended. Bechdel Test: Fail Mako Mori Test: Fail Overall: 4/5 (From Scavenger Hunt #22 on January 7th, 2017) Up, a review by DragonfireUp From the revolutionary minds of Pixar Animation Studios and the acclaimed director of Monsters, Inc. comes a hilariously uplifting adventure where the sky is no longer the limit. Carl Fredricksen, a retired balloon salesman, is part rascal, part dreamer who is ready for his last chance at high-flying excitement. Tying thousands of balloons to his house, Carl sets off to the lost world of his childhood dreams. Unbeknownst to Carl, Russell, an overeager 8-year-odl Wilderness Explorer who has never ventured beyond his backyard, is in the wrong place at the wrong time - Carl's front porch! The world's most unlikely duo reach new heights and meet fantastic friends like Dug, a dog with a special collar that allows him to speak, and Kevin, the rare 13-foot tall flightless bird. Stuck together in the wilds of the jungle, Carl realizes that sometimes life's biggest adventures aren't the ones you set out looking for. My Thoughts I think I shared the Epinions link when I talked about the movie originally, but here it is again in case I forgot. My Thoughts: Last night I finished off Season 2 of Friends. Still enjoying re-watching it very much. Such a great sitcom... still laugh out loud whenever I watch it. This season has some pretty good recognizable guest stars. They include Max Wright (ALF), Catherine Bell (JAG), Arye Gross (Ellen), Michael McKeon (Laverne & Shirley), Audra Lindly (Three's Company), Peter Deluise (21 Jump Street) and Charlie Sheen (Two and a Half Men). now off to watch some of Season 3!My Rating: Out of a Possible 5 (From Addicted2dvd's Random TV Series Watched on September 23rd, 2011) |
