On Her Majesty's Secret Service, a review by Dragonfire

James Bond goes undercover in the treacherous Swiss Alps in this action-packed epic filled with artillery-laden ski pursuits, incredible stunts and nonstop thrills! George Lazenby leaps into the role of Agent 007 with supreme confidence and undeniable charisma, even finding love with the beautiful and seductive Tracy Di Vicenzo (Diana Rigg). But first Bond must stop evil genius Blofeld (Telly Savalas) from releasing a germ warfare plot that could kill millions!

My Thoughts

Well I finally watched this one.  This was probably the Bond movie I was least wanting to watch and I'm still not completely sure why.  I put off watching this one since like...September or October when I had started the others.  It wasn't horrible....but I didn't love it either.  Lazenby was ok, but just didn't seem right as Bond to me..and that frilly shirt he was wearing with the kilt at one point was just ridiculous.  The plot was somewhat interesting, but it just moved too slow.  I actually had to watch it in two sittings.  There were some decent action scenes, but too much of the other stuff just moved too slow.  It didn't work for me how Bond went undercover and came face to face with Blofeld...Bond didn't do that much to change how he looked and the men had met before - going on the order the movies were made instead of the original books.  The big chase in the bobsleds just seemed ridiculous to me.

The relationship between Bond and Tracey was alright, though I don't think it was given enough time to develop for it to be believable.  The fact that he jumped into bed with her so fast fit his character...then when he was undercover he got with those other women...yet right after that when he was with Tracey again, he declares his love and proposes.  It was just a bit too fast.  There was emotion to what was going on, especially late in the movie.  I don't really like how everything worked out there either, even though I knew it was coming and things for the movie series really wouldn't worked that well otherwise.

I did like the movie overall...but I had issues with it.  It was mostly entertaining, though the pace could have been handled better.  I have started a draft of a review that I'll post on Epinions.  I want to watch the extras from the second disc of my DVD and talk about those for the review as well.  I just haven't gotten myself motivated to watch them yet.  lol  I might do that yet tonight..or wait until tomorrow.  I do know I'm ready to return to Connery and then move on to Moore.

Friday the 13th - Part VI: Jason Lives, a review by RossRoy

Friday the 13th - Part VI: Jason Lives

WHAT THEY SAY
As a child, Tommy Jarvis did what many other died trying to do. He killed Jason Vorhees, the mass murderer who terrorized the residents of Crystal Lake. But now, years later, Tommy is tormented by the fear that maybe Jason isn't really dead.

So Tommy and a friend go to the cemetery to dig up Jason's grave. Unfortunately for Tommy, (and very unfortunately for his friend), instead of finding a rotting corpse, they discover a well rested Jason who comes back from the dead for another bloody rampage in Friday The 13th, Part VI: Jason Lives.

MY THOUGHTS
Now that's the Jason I know and heard so much about! Jason in full, supernatural, bad ass mode! I also like the self referential inside jokes. For some reason, I like this new, more powerful Jason. He's got a more menacing presence. They also show him more, with helps build tension. I found this installment pretty good.

"Battlestar Galactica" Marathon (1978-2009), a review by DJ Doena

Disc 2

You Can't Go Home Again
Synopsis: During the last attack Starbuck's Viper was heavily damaged and she had to eject in the atmosphere of a small moon. But she also shot down the Raider that shot her down and it crashed on a near-by site. The problem is that she has no means of communication, Galactica does not know where to look for her and she's running out of oxygen in 46 hours. Luckily for her, Adama is not willing to leave her behind.

My Opinion:
Litmus
Synopsis: It is not yet publicly known that Cylons can look like Humans and another Number Five (looks like the reporter Aaron Doral) walks into Galactica and kills himself in a suicide bombing after he was cornered. Adama orders an investigation on how Doral got his hands on explosives and a detonator and the Master-at-Arms discovers that Chief Tyrol is lying about his wherabouts during the time of the bombing which makes him a suspect of treason.

My Opinion: Now the secret is out. This episode reminded me of Star Trek TNG's The Drumhead which also featured a witch hunt but here it wasn't fully believable. Yes she may be the Master-at-Arms and Adama gave her command authorization but she went over the line too quickly for someone who isn't used to boss Commanders around.

Six Degrees of Separation
Synopsis: Another Number Six copy with the name Shelly Godfrey comes aboard Galactica and claims that she has evidence that connects Dr. Baltar to the failure of the colonial defences and that in fact he planted a bomb in the defence computer system. Baltar finds this outrageous (he didn't plant a bomb after all, he just unknowingly slept with the enemy) but he can't tell anybody that Shelly is a Cylon (Why would he know that?).

My Opinion: Baltar and Head-Six, what a lovely pair. ;) It was such a great scene when Baltar was in CIC and was introduced to Shelly and he searched for her, totally ignoring the woman standing in front of him - assuming that this was his imaginary Six. ;D I like Head-Six scenes in general because she gets him in awkward situations where he has to simultaneously* talk to her and the other (real) person in the room. And once again he managed to wind himself out of a tight spot. Even if he isn't a real villain like the classic Baltar, he's my favourite villain on the show.

* I wonder if I will ever write that word correctly, spellchecker has to correct me every time...
