My Thoughts: I always liked this movie. I have seen it a few times in the 90's on German television. There were even two different German dubs. One in standard German, in the other, the actors were dubbed with French accents. This is unusual but I really liked that dub Now was the first time I had a chance to watch it with the original French sound track. This movie had a disappointing sequel and a US/French spin-off movie which I haven't seen yet. But I will soon because it was also part of the latest package. But I do not promise myself much from this new movie because I have yet to read a favorable review for it. Rating: (From Tom's Time-Travel Movie Reviews on January 15th, 2008) Trauma, a review by EricTrauma - First time seen I don't really know what to say about this movie. I was completely lost during the whole movie. I think the british accent of the main character may have something to do with it. Coling Firth speaks fast and not very clearly, with the accent I couldn't understand half of what he was saying and this DVD doesn't have subtitles. It wasn't until the end that I understood what the story, maybe it's because it's well done and that has nothing to do with the accent after all. Overall I enjoyed it, I don't regret buying it. Score: 3.5/5 Could someone use the spoiler tag and tell me what's with the ants (From Eric's DVD watching. on February 17th, 2008) Tom's TV Pilots marathon, a review by Tom
Plot: The girls of the Social Welfare Agency are no ordinary children. They are the grizzly remains of human wreckage pieced back together with cybernetic implants and trained to kill by the government. The oldest, Triela, pursues her targets with a ferocious enthusiasm - unwilling to settle for less than total annihilation. Her mirror in this bloody stalemate is Pinocchio, a shell of a boy raised as an assassin by the FRF - a terrorist faction at war with the SWA. Cold and cruelly efficient, he wields sharpened steel as though it were his own hand. Once human, these shattered souls have become murderous machines with only vague recollections of what it meant to be real - and a brutal compulsion to be the last killer standing. BUt when I first saw it I was very disappointed. Another studio produced this one. They changed the character design, the voice acting and animation style. Everything I thought was great in the first series. The author of the manga was heavily involved in the second series and is responsible for the character design change. I have read that he wanted to bring it closer to the character design of later volumes of the manga. But I always preferred the early chapters. The "handlers" of the Gunslinger Girls look much too young now in my opinion. The only thing which I liked from the beginning is the new opening theme: Rating: (From Tom's TV Pilots marathon on July 4th, 2011) |
