You NEED Young Frankenstein!! ;D
Nice to see you're still around Laura...
Nice to see you're still around Laura, I was wondering why you weren't posting anymore.
What did you think of Tremors?...and Rose Red?
What did you think of Tremors?...and Rose Red?
What did you think of Tremors?...and Rose Red?
 I rated both 9/10!
3 down.....only 28 to go :training:
So what are the rules on
- shorts: do they count at all I RECKON THERE IS NO RULE AGAINST WEARING SHORTS :training:
- what is the minimum length for a film to be eligible ??? NO MINIMUM
- TV Series: do episodes count, a disc, or season only I THINK IT SHOULD BE A SERIES, BUT I CAN'T HANDLE ANOTHER RULE DEBATE HERE SO WHATEVER EVERYONE ELSE FEELS :surrender:
Not sure what Touti is doing either, but I'll stick with the 26 letter alphabet and one numbered item. CANADIAN ALPHABET?
Surely if you watch several episodes of something that should be substantial enough for an entry?

I like this idea of "being forced" to watch DVDs. Thanks for this :)
One question though: Is there a rule for these marathons for which title counts? I.e original title or DVD title. Or can we use these as a joker? ;D
This marathon is a great idea.I agree. I also take it as in incentive to finally make my unwatched stack smaller or watch movies I haven't watched for awhile (if I have got no unwatched for that specific letter).
:weep:
First week and I goofed up already. Watched Gojira without realizing I had the Gs covered already :(
There is a load I am watching I already have covered in this! :P Most of my recently watched titles has already been covered.
I just realized, I have no movie whose original title begins with Z. Any recommendations or should I play my Joker? ;D
I got a few, where the German DVD title begins with Z :hmmmm:
ZardozThanks for the recommendations!
Zathura
Zodiac
Zoolander
Zorba the Greek
Zorro
Zulu

I've only seen Zorba, Zorro, and Zulu and I liked them all. The others were bought due to recommendations from others so I think they should be pretty good too.
I haven't seen the new version, but I just can't comprehend how they can possibly get the same effect.
To keep all participants in the marathon together, i have grouped the tables in one post.
How dare you even ask! :o
;)
It was the original version, and the Director's Cut. The DVD gives you a choice, but only the Theatrical has a 5.1 remix. Even in mono and with variable video quality I think the DC is worth seeing. I know the ending very well, but somehow, it makes the film all the more powerful.

I wondered because you only rated it 6/10, which to me indicates it's only slightly better than average. :stars:
To make things easy for everyone and save Richierick the extra work, I can just take them out of here and put them in a separate thread.
Richierich, I hope you don't mind, I know it took you time to put the lists together, I appreciate the initiative.
Canada is celebrating Thanksgiving, the USA Columbus Day, what are you celebrating today ya_chin?10/10 is Taiwan's National Day.
Do movies watched at the cinema count or only DVDs?
And a new challenge for November has been concocted, more details to follow at the end of this marathon
Do movies watched at the cinema count or only DVDs?I don't see why not. Go ahead and count it. It's still a movie watched! ;D
I certainly did not see that post until you quoted it...And a new challenge for November has been concocted, more details to follow at the end of this marathon
Hmmm This comment sort of slipped under the radar. I surely hadn't noticed it. Can't wait! :fingerchew:
Interesting seeing the variety everyone is watching in the marathons, and the scores being given.I have not given any scores yet, but will follow up later...
Touti - Interested to hear how you rate the Jack the Ripper TV production, I have that version but never watched it yet
I really enjoyed this movie but there was one thing that really annoyed me. Why did the female lead act the way she did? She acted so stupid, tripping over herself and generally being useless. I started hoping the zombies would just put her out of my misery! I mean really, would you act that way if someone were trying to eat you?!? (and no  intended!).
It's because it was a product of the 60's and despite being advanced in terms of it's handling of race, it seems it didn't pick the same path with the female sex. Dr Who is a very good example of this, watch stories from the 60's and the main female companions are pretty much there to scream and run away/faint/get caught and be rescued.
I've changed a few movies on my list; I'm having a mini horror marathon later tonight. I will be watching Dawn of the Dead (thanks Jon) and Ichi the Killer. :axed:

In the meatime, I hope everyone is keeping their marathon list updated in the other thread (Rick :yellowcard:)
True, but continuing my earlier comment, do you think the stupidity, greed and bonkerishness (new word!) of the white characters is exaggerated to emphasise the level headed bravery and ingenuity of the lead black hero? :headscratch: I feel a candidate for the discussion thread coming on! :tease:
Get your thinking caps on early, for films ending in J,Q,X etc ;DWell, X seems like a walk in the park... (can think of three, own two of those) :tease:
Glad to see everyone giving next month's an early thought, I am stuck on a title in my collection ending with Z :hmmmm:
BTW - Rumour has it Rick has unblocked Skip on the 'other' site, so he has spent all week catching up on the posts :badidea:

I suppose this isn't the time to suggest making it harder by losing points for watching something someone else has already listed? :suicide:

To be honest we've had some health issues that have hampered my movie watching time.Sorry to hear that. All the best wishes from Taiwan!
Got a bit of a Monkey theme going today:hysterical:
Son of Kong
Mighty Joe Young (1949 of course)
Pitch Black
I have the problem, that I have some new stuff here that I'd like to watch, but I already have the respective letters covered
I'd decided to have a double-bill today. But then I went and chose Kingdom of Heaven as my first. :slaphead: Clocking in at over three hours, the double-bill can get stuffed; I'm going to bed instead... :surrender:

:o :o :o You didn't watch the rugby!!!! :o :o :o
Played by men with funny shaped balls?

I never said you could post my photo!:hysterical:
Oh dear, my attempt is unravelling! I missed Monday night and tonight, I watched Oldboy. I'd already done a sodding 'O'! :suicide:
Hey, Kathy! Are you still doing this? Your list hasn't been updated in ages. C'mon slacker! :tease:
I'm officially withdrawing from the competition. I may have the time to watch one more but definitely 6 in less than 2 days.
I really enjoyed this marathon, it forced me to watch many movies I've had sitting in my collection for a long time and never watched. I hope with can do this again but not with the alphabet please, 26 movies in a month is just too much.
Can someone explain what's the big fuss about "Taxi Driver"? I mean I liked the movie but there's nothing so extraordinary about it :headscratch:
the marathon has been a good exercise as I have watched titles I normally pass over.

This is exactly how I feel. Great stuff.
But, may I just add a: :o , a ??? and even a :voodoo: to the thread? "Nothing extraordinary about" Taxi Driver? No. Just, no. You are in fact, wrong. :tease:
Apart from the performances, the direction, the dialogue, the cinematography (a rather different view of New York to most others at the time), the music, it's a complex and frightening moral story. We see Travis unravel, even as he exposes the grubby, nasty side of life. And in the end, you might be happy that a young victim of prostitution has been rescued, but it's by a man who is an emotionally damaged reject. The story seemed to be leading toward those dangerous emotions being exposed and dealt with, but in fact, he's now a hero and has been allowed to slip back into society. He is desperate need of being rescued from himself and it's doubtful it will happen. Just how many Travis's are there out and about?
While I was watching "Taxi Driver", it felt all along like watching a Woody Allen movie :tomato:. The reason I'm saying this is that I don't much like this style of movie when the characters talk fast and keep repeating the same sentences 6 or 7 times. You know things like "Are you telling me what to do, are you fucking telling me what to do huh ? Huh ? Are you fucking telling me what to do huh? Don't you ever fucking tell me what to do, are you fucking telling me what to do ?"
I think you're getting my point, this kind of writing was overly used in those years and I find it annoying. That's why I didn't much enjoy "Taxi Driver".
the marathon has been a good exercise as I have watched titles I normally pass over.
but if any of you have seen it, I'd be really really interested in knowing what you thought it was all about.
And if you haven't seen it.. Well, get it ;)
My tip for a good film is Perfume - very much better watching than expectations from reviews and overviews
Q and J may indeed pose more of a problem...?Thought I prepare myself for November and found I indeed do not own any movies for either J or Q. Don't think I want to buy some obscure DVDs just to do the marathon though. What do you guys think how that should be handled?
What do you guys think how that should be handled?
What do you guys think how that should be handled?
Well I don't have a J either, so what I was thinking, is if you don't have a movie with last letter J, go 1-up and use the second to last letter (in my case, Jumanji or Cujo). It bends the rules a little, but at least I have the same number of movies to watch as everybody else.
New thread will go up tonight in preperation for next months marathon I will undertake
...Raging Bull! Cinema at its finest is an experience rather than just a film or just a story. And this film is certainly that; profound and brilliant. Some of the fight scenes are astonishingly powerful for it.
I don't know if I'll finish this month; I've finished 12 :bag: Has anyone seen Scarface? I had heard it was fantastic but...I only rated it a 7/10. I haven't watched any of the extra features yet thought; I want to try and get more movies in instead.
I loved Scarface too, but I must admit to being slightly underwhelmed. That's likely because of its mythic status, which is tough to live up to. When I see it again I'm sure it will have a deeper effect.
You might have a point. I had heard sooo much that I expected a lot. I just hate that, with all that ammunition flying, it took forever to get Tony. I mean really...how can everybody be such a lousy shot?!?
I am finally done with the October Alphabet Marathon. :yahoo:
Giving it serious thought if I should start counting everything I see beginning tomorrow to the November run, in order to compensate for the 5 days that I'll be out of the country towards the end of the months. :hmmmm:
Secondly, that will be breaking the rules!! ::) ::) I checked on the US Copyright Office and it definately says you cannot start the November reverse alphabet marathon until November 1st ::) ::)

Does anyone know what that beach ball shape icon "insert flash" does? You mean this?
But you chose bunnies too!!! :hysterical:
Now Kathy will think Flash animations are for bunnies only!
I was afraid it had something to do with Jon wearing his long raincoat again!
Firstly congratulations, medal is in the post ;):thanks:
Secondly, that will be breaking the rules!! ::) ::) I checked on the US Copyright Office and it definately says you cannot start the November reverse alphabet marathon until November 1st ::) ::)But that would mean that everything I :tv: over the next 5 days will "go wasted" :'(
PS if you are still visiting Invelos forums, you'll understand this :tease:Sadly enough I still do. I currently don't post in any of those threads though, as there is a ::) user ::) that doesn't seem worth responding to at this time (:talktomyhand:) and just agreeing with everyone else seems rather pointless.
Just completed my marathon. :egyptian:
Just in time for hockey :tv:
Who is your favorite team?
Go Habs go!
And they just won against Pittsburgh tonight, great goal by Markov in the shootout!
I'm afraid I won't finish this marathon. :bag:
I'm afraid I won't finish this marathon. :bag:
Right there with ya.
I did watch more than I usually do in one month so that's a good thing. I'm hopeful I'll finish the next one but my wife is having surgery next week and we're moving December 1st :-\ Spare time is not going to happen this month. I'll be watching most of mine while working (so what else is new :slaphead:)
