Road House, a review by Antares

Road House (1948) 3.5/5 - Ahhhh, Ida Lupino... if I could have just one woman from the Golden Age of Hollywood, it would be her. No one could play the bad girl types like she did. She had that waifish look, a melodic, warbling voice and the smoking sensuality that made good guys go bad. In Road House, she plays a chanteuse at a lounge owned by Richard Widmark. Widmark's character is completely smitten with her, but when she falls for his good looking friend and manager of the lounge (Cornel Wilde), his jealousy overcomes him and he frames him for embezzlement. He has the judge parole him into his custody, just so he can drive a wedge between the two lovers as he makes his life a living Hell. But this only bonds the two closer, and when the trio go on a trip together, Wilde and Lupino make a break for it, with Widmark in psychotic pursuit.

Not a great film, but it delivers the goods. Once again, Richard Widmark plays the lecherous type to perfection. As I've written before, Mitchum was the God of noir, but Widmark is the Beelzebub.

My Thoughts:
I enjoyed this movie. This movie is about 42 students who are left on an island and must kill each other until only one is left, otherwise all are killed after three days time. I think the movie is well done. My favorite is the teacher who put them all there. My favorite scene is the briefing of the students of what they have to face.

And yet another movie where one of Death Note's cast has a role. "Light" from Death Note has also a starring role here.

Lois & Clark: The New Adventures of Superman Marathon, a review by addicted2dvd

9. GHOSTS
A-haunting we will go. A plus-sized ghost decides she'll take Lois' body.... and Lois' husband, too.

My Thoughts:
This is a fun episode. It guest stars Drew Carey and Kathy Kinney (Mimi) from The Drew Carey Show. It is definitely a light-hearted episode.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

10. STOP THE PRESSES
Perry's promoted, and the new editor of the DAILY PLANET is... Lois! Think Clark will get along with his new boss?

My Thoughts:
This is a pretty good episode. I enjoyed it... though not as much as the previous one. It was interesting seeing Clark deal with his wife being his boss.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

11. TWAS THE NIGHT BEFORE MXYMAS
Christmas again? Where did the time go? MR. MXYZPTLK, on imp from the fifth dimenssion, makes every day Santa's day.

My Thoughts:
This is probably my favorite of the 3 Christmas episodes in the series. I thought that Howi Mandel did a very good job as Mr. Mxyzptlk. And I enjoyed the storyline... was like a Christmas version of the movie Groundhog Day.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5

12. LETHAL WEAPON
Daddy's boys. Perry's ex-con son and Mr. Godget's cop son bring their own brands of evildoing to Metropolis.

My Thoughts:
This is a good episode... in it we once again see Red Kryptonite. We also meet one of Perry's sons in this one. Even though this is a good episode... it is also a pretty standard one.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
