Gone Girl, a review by Antares

Gone Girl (2014) 90/100 - I haven't watched many films from the the last few years, due to the fact that I've felt that Hollywood has lost the ability to be creative and entertaining at the same time. This film proves that there are still bits of gold out there waiting to be found. David Fincher has shown once again, that his film making is evolving, taking risks that Hollywood generally, doesn't want to take anymore. I can't remember the last time I was so riveted by a modern day movie. Kudos to the actors too, because every performance is spot on, with equally high praise to Rosamund Pike, Kim Dickens and Carrie Coon. I'm hoping to see more in the future from each of them. The only fault I can find with this film does not lie at the feet of the director. I felt the ending was a bit too unreal and according to my wife, who read the book, was how the author chose to end the story. And seeing as how the author wrote the screenplay too, you also have to credit Fincher with staying faithful to the original narrative. I've said this before, in regards to a David Fincher film, and I'm going to say it again... this is the kind of film that Quentin Tarantino wishes he had the talent to make.

Teal = Masterpiece
Dark Green = Classic or someday will be
Lime Green = A good, entertaining film
Orange = Average
Red = Cinemuck
Brown = The color of crap, which this film is

Charlie's Angels, a review by addicted2dvd

Charlie's Angels: Special Edition
Adventure has never been more beautiful than CHARLIE'S ANGELS! Cameron Diaz, Drew Barrymore and Lucy Liu star as the captivating crime-fighting trio who are masters of disguise, espionage and martial arts. When a devious mastermind embroils them in a plot to destroy individual privacy, the Angels are on the spot with their brains, brawn and high-tech toys. Aided by their loyal sidekick Bosley (Bill Murray), the girls are about to bring down the bad guys when a terrible secret is revealed that makes the Angels a target of assassination. Now, it's a matter of life or death as the stunningly smart detectives use their state-of-the-art skills to kick evil's butt in this sexy, high-octane comedy!

My Thoughts:
Once again this is a movie that several people I personally know didn't like... but I, myself... I enjoyed it quite a bit.  Granted other then some very cool fighting scenes... there is nothing of real substance here.... it is just a cool, action packed, fun movie with some sexy women. Pretty much what the series was... a basic guilty pleasure if there ever was one. I really liked who they got in all the roles. And it looks like they had a blast doing the picture. In my opinion... this isn't meant in any way to be a thought provoking movie... just a good clean fun popcorn movie. And for me at least... it pulled it off well.

My Thoughts:
I just finished season 4... the last season that was given to me for Christmas to watch. Though I do have the next season already ordered to look forward to. Needless to say... I am still hooked on the series. The set is filled with good episodes... but even so... it was once again rather easy for me to pick a favorite episode. As they brought back the character of Mr. Yang from the previous season's finale for this season's finale. Letting us know that Mr. Yang had a partner that is still out there.... a Mr. Yin! And looking ahead to season five I see they are brought back for that season finale as well. Something more to look forward to as these episodes are arguably the best episodes of the entire series.

My Rating:
Out of a Possible 5
